when someone play a life gaining spell or ability on u such as renewed faith and then false cure do u still gain life?

this kid said u just lose double life so 12, but wouldnt u gain 6 , then lose 12 ,, basically just making u lose 6?
he says u dont gain life at all

I dont have a card search on me but i believe the person still gains the life. but losses double. or something or other. if i could get on chat right now id tell ya

The player does gain then false cure triggers so if you gain 10 life from 20 you would go to 30 then lose 20.

Correct, the key word missing on False Cure is 'instead'. Had it stated Until end of turn, whenever a player gains life, that player loses 2 life for each 1 life he or she gained instead then its a replacment effect rather then just a triggered.

^^^^^That's what you're trying to get at, the one you modified would be incorrect.
