Hi, me and some other nerds have designed a new mtg client, maybe you've heard of project G.O.
Well that project is finally being finished (we've all been very very busy with other things like work, life, women in the past few months and mtg did not seem that important in that period)

However, we decided that the name GO (Gathering Online) is pretty cheap and not the best name, even though GO is a very common word in the game (at end of turn, who doesn't say it nowadays?) so we'd like your help as ML is somewhat the biggest league in the free online mtg commnunity.

So far we came up with siMtg, we are just not that creative lol.

The person who comes up with the name may have his name put in the Help -> About Menu, no money is involved since the project isn't funded by any company and we're all flat broke Razz

Have fun and thanks.
(ps. please no flames about how we dont need another client and how mws rules all...)

Edit:

It would be great if you could "google" for the name, a thing you cant' really do for the name GO

if wizards doest have a copyright on everything there is in the game or about it, you would have several options:

GuruMTG, MTGguru....but cant use MTG OR GURU, cause they are copyrighted.

cant really use anything that would be commonly linked to appr or mws, dont want to send the wrong impressions.

So, i would suggest..........The Magic Tutor

But since i know absolutly nothing about your program, this is all have.

im out

lol TMT before long people will be calling it TMNT Razz

i think GO isnt that bad of a name, or you could try something halfway silly but to still get the point like... MOGO, magic online, gathering online, and it plays on MODO Razz

Some ideas:
noob

wizard (I don't think a word can be copyrighted so you could use it, unless there is an online computer game named wizard)

W2W (an analogy to P2P - if that is the tech u r using)

cheapo

gg

FreeMan

Cracker

PS: What has your client improved over Appr or MWS?

We use Client / Server for online play, so you dont have to worry about hosting (we have a dedicated server running and a simple server with basic features is provided)

Some features.
- Support for .jpg (0.15 will have support for mws jpgs)
- Excellent card drawing engine without jpg's, all card details (name, mana, pt, typeline, text) are printed in the card box.
- All 'zones' are on the table as you would have irl for easy viewing and manipulating (no popup boxes as in appr)
- Support for large decks (upto 9999 cards)
- Abilty to watch games in real time (this also provides a way to call a judge to your game)
- No need to draw target arrows as they are drawn for you.
- Right Mouse Menu & Drag and Drop interface
- Ability to use Wishes
- User defined cardsnapping, the way your opponent has his cards organized does not effect the way you see them so you always see all the cards (appr tends to give a little problem with 2 different screen resolutions)
- Ability to load a new theme while playing
- Easy way to play with hand & top lib card revealed with the press of a button.
- Easy token creator

I'm probably forgetting some things, but the server client idea is pretty much the biggest difference from appr (and mws?)

Sounds good. Remember that most players prefer Appr over MWS for its simplicity so try to keep the interface as simple as possible. In any case, feel free to count me on your testing group. (I am a programmer myself so I know that testing is crucial)

if this is real, it is a godsend. As the guy above me pointed out, SIMPLICITY IS KEY! The ability to have card pictures is great, but make sure that you keep the program simple.

i dont see how MWS is complicated... I think appr is more complicated... finding out how to mulligan, shared fate, etc.. and MWS is MUCH prettier and all-around better, especially for routed people.

anyway,

I like GO... Even though it makes no sense, gatherer implying less of a game, and more a compilation of cards. I would say...

RTM - Real-Time Magic
FOM - Free Online Magic
EM - Electronic Magic
GO - Gaming Online

I like RTM.

how about:

MTGPTLYPPN

(Magic The Gathering Program That Let's You PLAY Phantom Nishoba)

It's long but would easily convince everyone to use the program. It's like looking for a gaming console.. Instead of looking for the system that supports the new Madden NFL game the best you are looking for the program that bests supports the usage of Phantom Nishoba.

as said in another post. these programs should go through staff first. there may/may not be other programs that are vastly superior to what we have, but need to be approved FIRST by the staff. that said there is a "contact us" button on the sidebar. have fun!
