Netdecking...

Recently I won a mini and then proceded to get into an argument with my opponent about netdecking. The way I look at it is this.. At any big event States, Regionals, Nationals, Worlds, etc. Just about every deck there say 90% are decks that were made by someone else and they took it and changed it to there liking. Now my opponent was rambling on about how there are few that play here that make up there own decks. The way I see it, I play to have fun therefore I play to win. Its not fun to lose. Now up until id say about 2 weeks ago i did try out my own creations and they just never worked out cuz there are better decks. So yeah i made a few that I found on here, brainburst etc. Its people like that guy that get on my nerves as im sure about 80% of people on here netdeck, give or take a few. With that in mind what are other peoples opinion on netdecking. Is it a bad thing to wanna win? I feel that some people on here get to fired up about losing. They take it to seriously like they are playin for a godly amount of money. Getting all pissy and runnin their mouths sayin u suck, ur deck sucks, im gonna lose ratings points, boo hoo. So what do you think about netdecking? Ignorant opponents who goes off when they lose and runnin there mouths? If netdecking is wrong I dont wanna be right. If its such a big issue then magicleague, brainburst, starcity, and other sites shouldnt post decks from any events or other peoples decklist. Agree, Disagree? Go nutz all.

if someone wants to netdeck, let them netdeck. They can do what they want, and like you they want to win. Your opponet was just being a sore looser

I agree with Ant, the guy was being a jackass. I had to give an emphatic "NO" to the question, as Ive never seen the skill behind netdecks. THe thing to remember(for whiners) is you have to learn how a deck works to play it well...hence the netdeckers posting high. On A different note, netdeckers wont be the top players, because anyone can pick up someone elses deck-that started out as a "rouge" deck(which is pretty vague, cause most cards in sets when you see them you already know they are constructed wourthy) and it worked so now people copy it. Granted, we dont play to lose, but "I want to win" is a piss-poor argument. Winning can be as simple as analyzing the meta and making something according, not just go "whatever works..." and pick the deck that won the last trial, ptq, etc. I stopped netdecking myself when I realized that if you dont at least see what worked with a deck and change what doesnt(BTW, I dont care what pro runs a deck that wins all the time, no deck is perfect and the more it sees play, the easier it is to beat unless its something horribly broken) you are nothing more than a drone. Think outside of the box when you netdeck, dont just take a deck and play it. No one can do very good that way('cept you Thalai, mr "netdeck 5 minutes before the trial." YOu are amazing in the curcuit.) and will see that trendsetters are the smart ones, not the followers.

playing a netdeck covers 2 aspects of the game. I myself have NO skill at creating a deck. i have vast skill in playing though. not everyone out there is good at both.i fix my problem by analizing the current decks to beat that are out there. pick one that is suited to me. test and play it. how can someone say netdeckers suck. eventually everyone looks at decks on the net. either to change you own deck or to play one. everyone uses the information. ill be back later. i know of someone who wrote up a good speach on netdecking.

I cannot locate the non-magic article that is play to win. but basically netdeck or not if you want to play to win there are sevral ways out there to do it. one of the proven methods is to wait for a more skilled player to make a superior deck and use that one. what exactly are you tring to get out of this topic? if its winning then my view is netdeck a good deck out there. learn it and play it. my final thought came from an article i read a long time ago. if you want to win a game then play to win. make your play choices according to your strategy of winning. if you do not nned to cast spell "X" then don't. if spell "X" is a better choice cause it will increase your chances of winning then play that spell over others. Its not so much the point of playing to win. Its more of saying that 80% of the people who play competitivly do netdeck and then may change it to fit the metagame and to the other 20% that dont needs to suck it up and deal when someone with less skill beats them. And also for them to show a little more sportsmenship.

less skill? netdecking does not equal less skill. maybe lazy and a lack of deckbuilding prowess. i know im lazy, and i know i cannot build a deck to win to save my life. building a deck to beat a random scrub... yes. but building to win a major tourney with outher good players... no.

I remember when I first started magic the funnest thing about it was making my own deck, I thought taht by combining Scathe Zombies, Unholy Strength, and Raise Dead I had an awesome combination going on. Anyways, six years later I find I still really enjoy the deck building process, especially when they preform well. It gives me a lot to think about building/tweaking my own deck, and seeing how it relates to the meta. Now I'm not saying that net decking is the devil, I just believe people miss out on a very fun experience when they don't make there own deck. Also I have netdecked before as well, just to give them a run and see how it works so I can beat it later, and also to feel like the shit when I use Karsten Gifts. My two cents.

as long as a netdecker KNOWS how to use a deck rather than just picking up a ichorid deck and playing it, i think it is ok and a good stragity to win

this question is a stupidity! Everyone netdecks! And those that say that they do not netdeck are just lying ! Most of ppl that create decks don't do anything in their lifes but playing magic (players like Ruel, Flores, Tsumura,etc), so why should we bother of creating decks if we have ppl that their lifes are all about magic?
This is my question to you all.

Net decking is just a normal part for magic

If someone goes to a torny bigger than FNM theres a biggest chance of them playing a deck that wins then just a random scrub deck...assuming you have enough money to net deck.
