Can I guess that David Rutter is commonly known as Rancored_Elf?
This is what happens when a big corporation like Hasbro takes over something like Wizards. I don't want to sound like a hippie, but this is certainly a shame. Sites like mtgsalvation.com had this coming. What I am really scared of is if this kind of action will radiate to magic-league and others.

| It wouldnt matter if the judge played magic or not. The judge has to leave all personal opinions and thoughts outside of the courtroom and can only give a verdict by what information has been displayed. |

| lmao at anyone who thinks that this is a serious case. Wizards has no legal standing against mtgsalvation or R_e (unless r_e is actually stealing the information himself). Wizards is simply on a fishing expedition attempting to identify the actual leaks (aka the JOHN DOES 1-10). |

| Wizards does have some legal standing if it can prove that the information posted was know to be copyrighted/private property and was also known to be stolen information by the people at mtgsalvation. |

| they have already inforced some changes to sites on the internet. on essential magic you can no longer print up proxies. the proxies had all the words, no color to them etc... that was because of WotC, there are other changes a while back that i cannot recall offhand |

Don't be so cynical. Most judges actually are quite impartial. And in a case like this one, it is very likely that person biases won't come into play. (this isn't about religion, abortion, or any heavily debatable subject).
Mtgsalvation just posts what people tell them. The best hope wotc has is getting a subpoena for them to reveal sources (most of which probably are breaking the law or a nondisclosure agreement) but I'm not sure if mtgsalvation even knows all their source or if they are protected under journalistic privilage. |

| Personally I think that Wizards has no true right to sue R_e but.......Laplie was right about getting the subpoena to make him reveal those other 10 sources.....Also....I think Wizards are just being big babies about the hole thing...IMHO |

| this is just a scare tactic to get R_E to reveal his sources =/, but R_E already said he wasnt going to(indirectly), also the leaks actually help sales since it gets people all psyched(sp?) about a new set, even more than the previews, this is just hasbro being stupid as usual |

but whats even more laughable, is that they've only been having these spoilers since before Mirridon....and they just now notice?
irl players are stupider then online players obv |

Apparently they can get pretty dumb on the internet too.
If you read the press release, it states that the case is based on R_E's posting of "prototypes".
MTGSalvation.com used to have pictures of what were supposedly playtest cards (the ones with the stickers) from Cold Snap.
Wizards knows that the spoilers are typically good for business.
However, a leak this big for a project that is still in development has shown that they have quite a mole. By suing R_E along with the John Does, they can force him to disclose everything he knows about his sources and how he gets his information.
It is possible that Wizards even planted these cards in order to sniff out the rat(s) leaking the information. |
