Greatness, at any cost.
- Flavortext of Dark Confidant

Winner is Gloomy Seer by Strid3r

Create a new card where this flavor text fits perfectly.

Judging on Wednesday night.

First, I sort out those who, in my opinion are not close to winning, then I will elaborate more about the remaining top.

Ursurp the Throne: I see, you kill the king to become king yourself. The problem is that this isn't really a high cost to pay. It's not "any cost".

Necroimpotence: Nope.

Sense of Sacrifice: I see you get a greater creature by sacrficing two. This looks like a relatively controlled evolution.

Rite of Dragon: I can imagine a shaman doing the Rite of Dragon, then die afterwards because it was so exhausting. Something still doesn't fit. I don't know what.

Fleeting Superiority: A neutral lifegainspell that doesn't produce greatness, but instead just small superiority, not at a great cost/sacrifice.

This leaves these submissions as a top 6.
Yawgmoth's Ambition
Uphold the Scheme
Ultimate Surge
Ancestral Ritual
Gloomy Seer
Bloodthirsty Tutor

The winner is Gloomy Seer. Close second place Bloodthirsty Tutor and Uphold the Scheme.

Uphold the Scheme B

Instant (rare)

Counter target spell. Its controller choses a permanent you control. Sacrifice it.

Greatness at any cost.

Edit: This has obviously nothing to do with actual schemes, which are an utter failure as the entire archenemy product.

That's some really nice flavor text to match the art (artist ref?) and rules text. Which, come to think of it, is made particularly relevant by the specifics of flippi's challenge.

Sense of Sacrifice G

As an additional cost to cast Sense of Sacrifice, sacrifice two creatures.
Search your library for a creature card with power equal to the total of the sacrificed creatures power, put that card onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library.
Greatness... at any cost.

Bloodthirsty Tutor B
Sorcery - RARE
Each player bids life. You start the bidding with a start bid of zero. Players bid life in turn order until no one wants to bid anymore. When the last bid stands, that player loses that much life, searches his or her library for a card, puts it into his or her hand, then shuffles his or her library.

Greatness, at any cost.
