I was thinking about this and it seemed like it would be really interesting and trying on deck-building ability.

At the forming of a tournament we ban X cards from the most popular list from said format's list. (Ex. Legacy: Stoneforge, Reanimate, Elvish Archdruid, Tormod's Crypt, Show and tell.) X could be any number, whichever people think would change the format to cause wacky builds.

And a stupid name I thought up was Everybody's a hate-bear.<- don't use that, its dumb <.<

Please post if you think of a number that would for for X.

It might be more interesting if you ban the top 10 decks of the metagame or something.

I think I would rather see more constricted consctructed. Also, maybe a format like 60 card decks, normal format rules apply, but after keeping opening hands each game, each player exiles the top 10 cards of their libraries and play.

Related, my brother and I tried a format where we banned all cards that "see play" in Modern. It was actually really interesting to think about (and to argue whether Rune Snag/Condemn/Isamaru/etc. "saw play").

I usually use points. Assign a certain number of points for rares/uncomms, and a max number of points your deck can reach, and make people build any type of deck that fits. Just make it so that you can't play enough rares/uncomms to build a normal tournament deck.

Example:
Mythic: 10, Rare: 5, Uncomm: 2, Common/Lands: 0
Max points: 40

Then as a deck builder, you need to allocate your resources properly, and most deck of a normal constructed metagame can't be constructed when you max out at 8 rares no uncomms.
