|
|
Hello all!
I'm going to be moving one deck into paper magic, a modern deck. Which one? I don't know! I'm asking your help to figure it out.
Contestant #1: Splinter twin combo
// Lands
9 [LND] Island (4)
2 [WWK] Halimar Depths
2 [EVE] Cascade Bluffs
4 [ZEN] Scalding Tarn
3 [GP] Steam Vents
1 [LND] Mountain (6)
4 [ISD] Sulfur Falls
// Creatures
2 [CHK] Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
3 [FUT] Magus of the Moon
4 [NPH] Deceiver Exarch
4 [LRW] Pestermite
// Spells
4 [ROE] Splinter Twin
2 [8E] Blood Moon
3 [RAV] Remand
3 [9E] Sleight of Hand
4 [ARE] Serum Visions
2 [DKA] Faithless Looting
2 [TSP] Wipe Away
2 [DS] Echoing Truth
// Sideboard
SB: 4 [M11] Leyline of Sanctity
SB: 3 [NPH] Surgical Extraction
SB: 3 [WWK] Dispel
SB: 3 [NPH] Spellskite
SB: 2 [FUT] Pact of Negation
Splintertwin does the two things I love the most: It plays bloodmoon, so I get to laugh at everyone and their expensive manabases, and it wins, and wins well. It has the added benefit of winning - a LOT. The list is 90% there, I just need to do a bit of tweaking. (Read: I need to play this a thousand times on ML before finalizing the list and getting it)
Cons: hate abounds, it's slightly more expensive, people expect it.
Contestant #2: Turbofog!
// Lands
4 [M12] Sunpetal Grove
4 [SOM] Razorverge Thicket
3 [RAV] Temple Garden
5 [TE] Forest (2)
8 [LND] Plains (1)
// Spells
2 [PLC] Dawn Charm
1 [ISD] Witchbane Orb
1 [NPH] Beast Within
4 [TSP] Angel's Grace
4 [LG] Holy Day
4 [B] Howling Mine
4 [M11] Fog
4 [FUT] Chronomantic Escape
4 [M11] Leyline of Sanctity
2 [CFX] Font of Mythos
4 [M12] Rites of Flourishing
1 [SHM] Wheel of Sun and Moon
1 [ZEN] Luminarch Ascension
1 [ROE] Near-Death Experience
// Sideboard
SB: 2 [ISD] Witchbane Orb
SB: 2 [NPH] Torpor Orb
SB: 3 [HOP] Relic of Progenitus
SB: 3 [8E] Ensnaring Bridge
SB: 2 [ARC] Leonin Abunas
SB: 3 [SHM] Greater Auramancy
The unexpected troll of Modern, turbofog doesn't win- it just doesn't lose. It's cheap, and rouge. It lets me wear a giant troll-face while playing it.
Cons: People that have encountered it before know exactly what to do to beat it. It's not considered a competitive deck, and there must be a reason for it.
When do I plan on playing these decks?
Well, I plan to bring them to FNM's, and if one is in my area, PTQ's.
Thanks all for helping me decide |

For modern, I really like WB Tokens. Not many people play it, but it's had some very high posts in PTQs.
2 [ZEN] Arid Mesa
2 [GP] Godless Shrine
4 [ISD] Isolated Chapel
4 [ZEN] Marsh Flats
5 [ISD] Plains (1)
2 [DKA] Vault of the Archangel
4 [LRW] Windbrisk Heights
1 [ISD] Swamp (1)
3 [DKA] Gather the Townsfolk
3 [M12] Honor of the Pure
4 [ROE] Inquisition of Kozilek
4 [ISD] Intangible Virtue
4 [DKA] Lingering Souls
4 [CMD] Path to Exile
4 [DDF] Raise the Alarm
4 [SHM] Spectral Procession
3 [LRW] Thoughtseize
3 [ARB] Zealous Persecution
SB: 1 [ARB] Zealous Persecution
SB: 4 [TSB] Disenchant
SB: 4 [M12] Timely Reinforcements
SB: 4 [PLC] Mana Tithe
SB: 2 [MBS] Divine Offering |

me being a troll, i prefer the turbofog one. anyway, just a question: playing with whiye, why witchbane orb over leyline? is there any curse that really hurts you? i'm also not keen on angel's grace and so, but that's up to you . i prefer splashing blue for BSZ as alternative wincon and baby jace (extra draw and mill, possible wincon). even new jace, but not sure on that. |

| I run the max 4 leylines already, witchbanes are redundancies. |

| To stay on topic, don't bother putting either of those on paper. |

| Jund, while it may be the best, and I'd love to play it, is almost a grand to build. At that point, I'd invest in legacy over modern. |
