new tournament style at my shop.

so my card shop where i play is doing this thing now before FNM. at 4pm every friday they are going to host "peasant" tournaments. i dont know if this is new or if its even localized to just our shop but it intrigues me. basically you can play any standard format legal card. the catch is that your deck can only contain commons and 5 uncommons. no rares or mythics. this i think seriously balances the playing field and lives up to the peasant name. broke people can become great now. i decided such a silly tournament deserves an equally ridonkulous deck. i really dont care about winning anything since ill get a pack regarless. i just wanna aggravate the crap outta people. here it is:

Lands:
12 Mountains
9 Swamps

Creatures:
1 Fume Spitter

Spells:
4 Tragic Slip
3 Doom Blade
4 Geth's Verdict
4 Death Wind
4 Shock
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Incinerate
4 Brimstone Volley
2 Thunderbolt
3 Thunderous Wrath
2 Fireball

Sideboard:
2 Sorin's Thirst
1 Grasp of Darkness
4 Virulent Wound
3 Victim of Night
3 Geistflame
2 Thunderbolt

Firstly, i know i only have one creature. it is on purpose for all those curious. if i had a 4th doom blade i wouldn't have any creatures. my theory is if i don't have any creatures then neither will my opponents. Secondly, the theme is obvious and i know there are other cards i probably should have in here, but this exhausts my resources for commons that would apply here. And thirdly, ive playtested this against my brother's GW Human deck for regular standard play and it actually holds its own against that until increasing devotion gets played. but i don't have to worry about that in the tournaments. what do you guys think?? is anybody esle seeing or hearing about peasant tournaments in your areas??? i doubt this will win any matches, let alone actual peasant style tournaments. i just wanna piss people of.... lol

Aren't those 2/2 guys that turn into 1-2 spirits common?

I hosted a 20ish player standard peasant tourney at my local card shop a few weeks before AVR was released. Mono red was played by half the players in the tournament, their uncommun being a mix of Stormblood Berserker, Shine of Burning Rage, Fireball. However, it is "dredge" that won it all, its uncommon being Spider Spawning with 3 Gnaw to the Bone main deck. That card is stupid in this format. I would recommand you running a couple of nihil spellbomb sideboard.

thanks for the info. i think i have one spell bomb somewhere.... if i can find it ill take out the grasp of darkness.....
