In a healthy Meta I would absolutely agree with you Kabelis. But that is obviously not the case. We have a Meta which is completely missing Combo (Ramp is dead and Frites will follow, in case you want to call these combo). And unfortunately, Controldecks are in a bad shape too, because of the Amount of agressive Decks (RDW, Ux Delver, Bx Zombies, RG Aggro). Those Decks make >50% of the Field.
In these Matchups, all you want is value. Value, and advantages in the Damage Race. 4 to the Head IS value, and a huge advantage in the Race.
Furthermore: We're talking about the Devil's Impact between Turn1 and Turn5 at maximum. There is really no need to discuss later Turns when the opposing deck stabilized itself, because if the RDW Player didnt succeed until then, its Shrine or its over. You just cant disagree: If the Game is supposed to end in 5 Turns, all you want is beef or damage, and this one grants both at a high level. |

Every time I see someone play this card, I will imagine that I'm playing against that shitty kid at FNM who sees a turn 1 Delver, then decides to Shock my face.
Remember kids, if your Vexing Devil was a Shock, you might actually have an ok deck. |

1 drops in RDW are meant to do as much damage as possible before their inevitable death, in hopes of slowly working the opp down to burn range. With that being said, Vexing Devil is a great card that's only relevant early game. Late game, for RDW, he's less than spectacular, but can easily turn into fodder for Faithless Looting.
By the way, I like how Magic-League is "vexed" at Vexing Devil.
It's true, irony IS when life imitates art. |

Your argument is excellent and incredibly well put together I must concede I am wrong. |

Its a decent card worth consideration in RDW/burn decks in all formats. (but not 4 of auto include)
Both effects (4/3 creature or 4 damage to opponent) are strong for R. BUT your opponent chooses which mode they can deal with better, meaning you will NEVER get the effect you want from it.
Basically this card says "4 damage to opponent or losses late game combat to a better creature your opponent controls." There is no way they will let you have a 4/3 at any point in the game unless they are confident they can deal with it before it does any damage.
Long story short: if 4 damage to a player for R is good for your deck, it is good (like legacy burn decks). However, don't underestimate its lack of versatility that is often taken for grated by other direct damage functioning as creature removal and late game reach. |

I must confess I have changed my mind again like a bisexul girl stuck between Cheryl Cole and George Clooney. Your argument was both compelling and informative and sunk old Grizzly440 argument in a similar fashion to how a large slab of ice sunk the titanic back in 1912. |

I would say it is better than browbeat. Notice the difference in mana costs: browbeat costs 2R, vexing devil costs R |
