Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, one of my friends suggested I post on here for advice.
At present, I'm a more casual player, but would like to become more competitive in Modern.
At present my deck is as follows:
Lands (18)
4 x Islands
6 x Mountains
3 x Sulfur Falls
1 x Shivan Reef
4 x Terramorphic Expanse
Creatures (4)
4 x Wee Dragonauts
Instants (24)
4 x Electrolyze (burn and card draw)
4 x Shock (pure burn)
3 x Lightning Bolt (need to get a 4th lol) (pure burn)
3 x Brute Force (aggro)
3 x Psychotic Fury (aggro)
3 x Desperate Ritual (mana gen)
4 x Think Twice (card draw)
Sorceries (14)
4 x Lava Spike (pure burn)
2 x Fireball (pure burn)
1 x Devil's Play (pure burn)
1 x Browbeat (burn or card draw)
4 x Stone Rain (land destruction)
2 x Seismic Spike (land destruction)
So, at present I'm trying to get more dual lands, e.g. Shivan Reefs; but otherwise I'm not sure where I should place more/less emphasis. Obviously I should try get a fourth Lightning Bolt, but I'm not sure if I should get more Devil's Play's and Browbeat's.
The main strategy is dropping a Wee Dragonauts and combined with the Psychotic Fury's and Brute Force's swing for a large amount of damage. The burn spells also help this due to the Dragonauts' effect. The Think Twice's and Electrolyze's are to help the card draw.
I'm not sure if perhaps I should get rid of the land destruction completely or not.
Thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance! |

It looks like a fun deck to play, but I worry about the ease of dealing with Wee Dragonaut. Normally I'm not the guy playing down a creature because it is subject to removal, but that argument is very applicable because it is your only win condition. Sadly, this is not my style of deck so I'm not sure which creatures would be beneficial to you. You run a good amount of burn, so perhaps Chandra's Phoenix?
I would get rid of your land destruction because it will never hit on turn 2. If you really want to slow down your opponents mana, you could run Boomerang. In place of your Stone Rains, you could add either Char of Flame Javelin. They can get rid of decent bodies and 4 pts to the dome is nothing to scoff at. Also, Browbeat is not as good as it seems because you will never get the optimal result.
When you put together a sideboard, I would invest in some Pyroclasms or else aggro is going to give you fits.
Others could probably give you better advice, but hopefully this is a start to making your deck more competitive. |

I'd say put in UR fetches and add Boom/Bust. Also, you probably don't have enough creatures for Brute Force to be effective.
Fireball is not actually very good. If you need the effect, play the good version(Comet Storm)
You should play Steam Vents over Shivan Reef for certain. Incinerate or Burst Lightning should be played over shock.
Probably more stuff I haven't thought of, but basically, if you want a deck like this to be good, you have to tighten it up. |

Thanks for the comments, I will definitely try some of those ideas.
Also, what do you think of putting Chandra, the Firebrand (if I can get hold of her that is) in? |
