Back with another 4-3-2-2 M11! this time. I would like to continue doing 8-4 but atleast until i find my feet in this new format, Im sticking to the more safe 4-3-2-2. Also there is a good chance M11 will not play into my strengths as both a player and a drafter as ROE draft did and I may not be able to cut it at 8-4 at all. Hopefully I will be able to but im not going to count my chickens. Anyway I won with an insane UR deck.

Event #: 1465663
Time: 8/5/2010 3:17:20 PM
Players:
Acarg51
--> ElementalMox
arp4
chuy100
SrP
starnez
dwizard09
alex85conti

------ M11 ------

Pack 1 pick 1:
Combust
Rotting Legion
Mind Rot
Arc Runner
Naturalize
Giant Growth
Dryad's Favor
--> Fireball
Giant Spider
Honor of the Pure
Mountain
Blinding Mage
Solemn Offering
White Knight
Maritime Guard

Nothing in this pack is on the same level as fireball, there can be no pick from this pack but fireball. Add to the fact red got alot stronger with M11 and alot of people have not cottoned onto this yet and this is really the perfect way to start a draft.

Pack 1 pick 2:
Hornet Sting
Wall of Frost
Rotting Legion
Infantry Veteran
Juggernaut
Island
Stabbing Pain
Ęther Adept
--> Lightning Bolt
Ajani's Mantra
Condemn
Giant Spider
Merfolk Spy
Demolish

3 real options in this pack the safest of which is juggernaught, which i happen to think is an entirely defensible pick if you would rather not commit this early. Condemn as an option i do not like, it pairs horribly with red, so taking it automatically means there is a good chance we will be splashing not something you should set out looking to do. Lightning bolt on the other hand is a great follow up to fireball and I am more than happy about it.

Pack 1 pick 3:
Stormfront Pegasus
Excommunicate
Terramorphic Expanse
Protean Hydra
Forest
Cloud Crusader
Water Servant
Bog Raiders
Thunder Strike
--> Fire Servant
Nightwing Shade
Llanowar Elves
Merfolk Spy

This pack contains, a series of strong cards, nightwingf shade, water servant, protean hydra, pegasus, cloud crusader. However when you already have fireball and lighnting bolt, Fire Servant is comfortably the only card worth considering.

Pack 1 pick 4:
Mass Polymorph
Mighty Leap
Brindle Boar
Mountain
Bloodcrazed Goblin
Duress
Goblin Piker
--> Gargoyle Sentinel
Relentless Rats
Preordain
Holy Strength
Unholy Strength

Weak pack with a fairly obvious pick in the no commital to another colour solid playable in gargoyle

Pack 1 pick 5:
Liliana's Caress
Nightwing Shade
Safe Passage
Spined Wurm
--> Manic Vandal
Giant Growth
Goblin Piker
Negate
Voltaic Key
Augury Owl
Swamp

This is an intresting pack, spined wurm and nightwing shade are probably the stongest cards in the pack. Black got a lot weaker with the loss of tendrils which was one of its key cards the lifegain was ever so important to the deck. Green is solid but but I would much rather take the vandal, as when i go red i like to pair it with blue if i can. The combination of evasive creatures, burn and card draw is a combination i very much like, so here i take the vandal for which there are alot of good targets in this format, with the view in mind of hoping i can pick up some sweet blue stuff.

Pack 1 pick 6:
Combust
--> Cloud Crusader
Hunters' Feast
Thunder Strike
Harbor Serpent
Blood Tithe
Mountain
Solemn Offering
Sacred Wolf
Unholy Strength

Stonger than anything else in the pack

Pack 1 pick 7:
Unsummon
Bog Raiders
Hornet Sting
Mountain
Ajani's Mantra
Fling
--> Cloud Elemental
Giant Spider
Merfolk Spy

Wow this must have been some pack as there are alot of really good cards left in it, fling is a card I am not such a big fan of and cloud elemental puts me in the direction i like to go.

Pack 1 pick 8:
--> Ice Cage
Ajani's Pridemate
Hornet Sting
Pyretic Ritual
Forest
Sylvan Ranger
Armored Cancrix
Stabbing Pain

Pack 1 pick 9:
Rotting Legion
Arc Runner
Naturalize
Dryad's Favor
Mountain
Solemn Offering
--> Maritime Guard

Pack 1 pick 10:
Hornet Sting
--> Infantry Veteran
Island
Stabbing Pain
Merfolk Spy
Demolish

Pack 1 pick 11:
Forest
Bog Raiders
Thunder Strike
--> Nightwing Shade
Merfolk Spy

Should not come this late.

Pack 1 pick 12:
Mountain
Bloodcrazed Goblin
--> Goblin Piker
Unholy Strength

Pack 1 pick 13:
Goblin Piker
--> Augury Owl
Swamp

Pack 1 pick 14:
--> Blood Tithe
Mountain

Pack 1 pick 15:
--> Merfolk Spy

------ M11 ------

Pack 2 pick 1:
Swamp (FOIL)
Thunder Strike
Nature's Spiral
Juggernaut
Duress
Azure Drake
Incite
Cancel
Yavimaya Wurm
Barony Vampire
Dryad's Favor
Plains
Squadron Hawk
Kraken's Eye
--> Frost Titan

Can ot compalin about the way I am cracking packs today, Frost Titan is an out and out bomb and an easy pick with what we have already.

Pack 2 pick 2:
Deathmark
Liliana's Specter
Garruk's Companion
--> Chandra's Outrage
Assault Griffin
Island
Awakener Druid
Reassembling Skeleton
Negate
Cloud Elemental
Safe Passage
Vulshok Berserker
Manic Vandal
Phantom Beast

Strong pack again, the chandras outrage in one of the main reasons red got so much better and Im glad to scoop it up.

Pack 2 pick 3:
Hornet Sting
Celestial Purge
Corrupt
Infantry Veteran
Call to Mind
Ajani's Mantra
--> Ęther Adept
Stabbing Pain
Rotting Legion
Giant Spider
Merfolk Spy
Demolish
Mountain

Here we hyave a choice between call to mind and the adept, this is a very close call in my opinion, the call would be very strong with our suite of removal, but the adept allows us to handle such things as mind control on our titan or an huge armoured accension, overall the adept, solved more problems for the deck in my opinion than the call to mind did so it was my pick.

Pack 2 pick 4:
--> Act of Treason
Infantry Veteran
Lava Axe
Wild Evocation
Giant Growth
Goblin Piker
Viscera Seer
Demolish
Fog
Roc Egg
Forest
Disentomb

Weak pack between the axe and act of treason, not a fan of lava axe as good as it may well be in a deck like this, id rather run act of treason.

Pack 2 pick 5:
Inspired Charge
Garruk's Companion
Viscera Seer
Nature's Spiral
Plains
Pyretic Ritual
--> Vulshok Berserker
Armored Cancrix
Barony Vampire
Demon's Horn
Black Knight

Okay guy, better than normal for us with the large amount of burn

Pack 2 pick 6:
Harbor Serpent
Fiery Hellhound
Quag Sickness
Bloodcrazed Goblin
Autumn's Veil
Runeclaw Bear
--> Diminish
Swamp
Primal Cocoon
Holy Strength

Works as removal also

Pack 2 pick 7:
Tome Scour
Siege Mastodon
--> Nightwing Shade
Goblin Tunneler
Bloodthrone Vampire
Tireless Missionaries
Jace's Erasure
Angel's Feather
Swamp

This card is alot better than ost people realise i think, its as good as dragonwhelp atleast.

Pack 2 pick 8:
Cultivate
Island
--> Foresee
Liliana's Specter
Earth Servant
Azure Drake
Barony Vampire
Manic Vandal

So glad to see this forsee, drake and servant are also strong must have been a good pack but forsee is what i really want to get me to all my sweet removal and frost titan.

Pack 2 pick 9:
Swamp (FOIL)
Nature's Spiral
--> Duress
Incite
Dryad's Favor
Plains
Kraken's Eye

Pack 2 pick 10:
Deathmark
Island
Safe Passage
--> Vulshok Berserker
Manic Vandal
Phantom Beast

Pack 2 pick 11:
Hornet Sting
--> Giant Spider
Merfolk Spy
Demolish
Mountain

Pack 2 pick 12:
--> Goblin Piker
Demolish
Fog
Forest

Pack 2 pick 13:
Viscera Seer
Plains
--> Pyretic Ritual

Pack 2 pick 14:
--> Bloodcrazed Goblin
Swamp

Pack 2 pick 15:
--> Swamp

------ M11 ------

Pack 3 pick 1:
Celestial Purge
Incite
Cancel
Ice Cage
Mitotic Slime (FOIL)
Nether Horror
Forest
Serra Angel
--> Lightning Bolt
Palace Guard
Preordain
Goblin Balloon Brigade
Stormtide Leviathan
Dryad's Favor
Gargoyle Sentinel

Stromtide leviathan is a big fatty of the highest order however he is 8 mana and is is not roe, so in a very stron pack, slime also, serra nagel all out of colour, my pick is lightning bolt, lots of burn now.

Pack 3 pick 2:
Plains
Hornet Sting
Unsummon
Ice Cage
Pacifism
Wall of Vines
Cultivate
Goldenglow Moth
--> Call to Mind
Howling Banshee
Nether Horror
Demolish
Pyroclasm
Disentomb

Pyroclam kills alot of my own creatures and is not that powerfull in this format, whilst call to mind fetches me pack so many awsome spells its my pick.

Pack 3 pick 3:
Roc Egg
Tome Scour
Brindle Boar
Incite
Mountain
Goblin Tunneler
Mighty Leap
Chandra's Outrage
Mind Rot
Jace's Ingenuity
Palace Guard
Giant Growth
--> Fireball

Wow this deck just ofically reached the level insane.

Pack 3 pick 4:
Augury Owl
Fling
Chandra's Spitfire
--> Lava Axe
Rotting Legion
Forest
Sylvan Ranger
Merfolk Spy
Volcanic Strength
Infantry Veteran
Stabbing Pain
Fog

2 fireball, 2 lightning bolt, 1 chandra outrage, 1 call to mind, 1 fire servant, if there is ever a point at which lava axe becomes a good card this is it.

Pack 3 pick 5:
Swamp
Unholy Strength
Wurm's Tooth
Goblin Balloon Brigade
Mighty Leap
Hunters' Feast
Palace Guard
--> Lightning Bolt
Solemn Offering
Nether Horror
Garruk's Packleader

Things just get better and better, awsome red burn suite now

Gravedigger
Sylvan Ranger

See last comment

--> Stone Golem
Cancel

--> Earth Servant
Blood Tithe
Jace's Erasure

I think you drafted pretty well and hit the open colors.

The only thing i want to comment on is some of your comments. Nightwing shade is pretty mediocore. It has to compare to rotting legion which is much better imo and you usually want to cast spells after you cast your shade.

I think you undervalue Augury Owl. Not that your deck turned out bad b/c of it, but that guy is in-SANE.

p1p3 Protean hydra, i know u/r and the fire servant worked out for you but you can't really expect to be shipped fireballs/bolts/outrage at or open a titan at this point in the draft

I'm unsure on hydra atm.

I think i do undervalue the owl, ive seen lots of people play them. I just assumed most of these people were awfull as a 1/1 flyer for two mana is very crap, is scry 3 really that good, it makes a 1/1 flyer for 2 mana playable?

yeah I'm pretty sure I'd take Protean Hydra pick 3 and end up in RG. Green was definitely open as well, probably moreso than blue.

I mean, Scry 3 is pretty significantly better than looking at the top 4, such as Sage Owl. Setting up your next couple of turns as well as shipping dead cards you don't wanna draw is really good. Also, vs. the right deck Augury Owl can get in for a decent amount of damage or be a good chump blocker. I think it is pretty awesome.

I never thought to use diminish as removal before, each time I've been using it to turn my wall into a 1/1 attacker
seriusly, u r kidding right?

Yeah I think I could have gone green also, as half the table was blue. I really like blue in this format though, forsee and jaces ingenuity are sexy plus adept is nice.

Though Im quite liking green atm, have a blue green draft I'm gonna put up tomorrow, I was really unsure how good the deck was going to be going into the rounds but it worked out really well.

Why can't I get 3rd pick fireballs when I draft on modo...instead I get mana issues 2 games out of 3 vs. people with multiple holy strengths maindeck.
