Because Steppe Lynx is a back up plan and Emerge Unscathed is 4 points of damage.
This looks really budget, so I can imagine you can add like, one or 2 Chandra Nalaar/Ablaze to fuel Spitfire, but they ARE expensive to cast, and you'll really want them for long control match-ups. btw, this deck loses to anything with a Vengevine in it. Just saying.

Yeah but most of the decks are multicolored... Emerge Unscathed doesn't do much to evade blockers

I agree. I think that emerge unscathe isn't as good as distortion strike. The strike works whatever your opponent is playing

Not only does blue provides mana leak, it also provides search/draw spells such as ponder and preordain.

those kind of spell get you the cards you need faster and still pump the fiend

You'll need a set of o-rings in the board for firewalkers and leylines.

leyline isn't that much a problem since the creature are supposed to do the killing.

Firewalker may be more problematic but it doesn't see much play in competitive decks

earthquake is a beating in this type of deck. I would try to stick in 3 copies of it.

Yeah you are right, it serves as a great hoser and a great finisher.
