|
Back with another 8-4 i won, alot of decisions to make this draft.
Event #: 1342412
Time: 6/20/2010 8:02:22 PM
Players:
lrellis
--> ElementalMox
Tollino
Talarion
Apokryph
MagicPlayer103758
haiheppn
GS5
------ ROE ------
Pack 1 pick 1:
Jwari Scuttler
Shrivel
Aura Finesse
Mammoth Umbra
Ulamog's Crusher
Bala Ged Scorpion
Eland Umbra
Arrogant Bloodlord
Soulbound Guardians
--> Lord of Shatterskull Pass
Stalwart Shield-Bearers
Sporecap Spider
Shared Discovery
Wrap in Flames
Forest
Nice to open with a bomb lord of shatterskull pass is very powerfull card, with out it, its close between crusher and mammoth umbra and i would not criticise either pick.
Pack 1 pick 2:
Plains
World at War
Repel the Darkness
Time of Heroes
Smite
Escaped Null (FOIL)
Ancient Stirrings
Ondu Giant
Survival Cache
Kiln Fiend
Frostwind Invoker
Ikiral Outrider
--> Heat Ray
Guard Gomazoa
Heat ray is on colour and the best card in the pack, so this is a pretty simple pick, if its not here my pick would be on the ondu giant as i like green red as combination, it also makes splashing easier and ramps as well.
Pack 1 pick 3:
Hand of Emrakul
Island
--> Knight of Cliffhaven
Traitorous Instinct
Grotag Siege-Runner
Haze Frog
Cadaver Imp
Lightmine Field (FOIL)
Skittering Invasion
Irresistible Prey
Guard Duty
Gloomhunter
Spawning Breath
Im not sure exactly how to rate tratirous instinct, it seems very hit and miss in this format, I'm also not a fan of combining white and red, as it generally means your running underwhelming cvreatures but the cliff haven was the most powerfull card so after much deliberation it was my pick.
Pack 1 pick 4:
Lagac Lizard
Cadaver Imp (FOIL)
Living Destiny
Essence Feed
Perish the Thought
--> Halimar Wavewatch
Makindi Griffin
Plains
Ancient Stirrings
Ogre's Cleaver
Brood Birthing
Fissure Vent
We have a griffin here to go with the knight but i really dislike white red as combination, so as wavewatcher is a much stronger card and a reasonable signal at 4th that blue may be my option its my pick.
Pack 1 pick 5:
Grotag Siege-Runner
Nema Siltlurker
Pennon Blade
Puncturing Light
Soul's Attendant (FOIL)
Swamp
Essence Feed
Shared Discovery
Eel Umbra
Luminous Wake
--> Evolving Wilds
Not a great pack but the wilds is a good pick with how i have drafted so far, as i could easilt end up white blue splashing red, or even if not it keeps my options open.
Pack 1 pick 6:
Forest
Bloodrite Invoker
Nighthaze
--> Kiln Fiend
Might of the Masses
Pathrazer of Ulamog
Soul's Attendant
Virulent Swipe
Arrogant Bloodlord
Surrakar Spellblade
Some reasonable black in this pack which is not something im happy about, as its hard to justify spreading my options even more for such mediocre cards, so im picking the kiln fiend here in case the distortion strike archtype is on.
Pack 1 pick 7:
Fleeting Distraction
Aura Finesse
Mountain
Stalwart Shield-Bearers
Harmless Assault
Ogre Sentry
Kor Line-Slinger
--> Reality Spasm
Goblin Arsonist
Another card for the kiln fiend deck
Pack 1 pick 8:
Evolving Wilds
Hand of Emrakul
Enatu Golem
Curse of Wizardry
Hyena Umbra
Swamp
--> Distortion Strike
Goblin Tunneler
Getting the cards for the kiln fiend deck now
Pack 1 pick 9:
--> Jwari Scuttler
Aura Finesse
Eland Umbra
Soulbound Guardians
Stalwart Shield-Bearers
Shared Discovery
Forest
Pack 1 pick 10:
Plains
World at War
--> Repel the Darkness
Ancient Stirrings
Survival Cache
Ikiral Outrider
Pack 1 pick 11:
Hand of Emrakul
Island
Haze Frog
--> Skittering Invasion
Irresistible Prey
Pack 1 pick 12:
--> Lagac Lizard
Living Destiny
Plains
Fissure Vent
Pack 1 pick 13:
--> Puncturing Light
Swamp
Luminous Wake
Alot of good late white, strange draft the only thing i can be sure of after this pack, is that the person feeding me is in green, I suspect he may be taking green base looking to splash anything to good to pass up.
Pack 1 pick 14:
Forest
--> Soul's Attendant
Pack 1 pick 15:
--> Mountain
------ ROE ------
Pack 2 pick 1:
Evolving Wilds
Jwari Scuttler
Soulbound Guardians
--> Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief
Nema Siltlurker
Mountain
Halimar Wavewatch
Bloodrite Invoker
Gravity Well
Haze Frog
Eel Umbra
Spider Umbra
Stalwart Shield-Bearers
Dreamstone Hedron
Puncturing Light
I've opened so many of these lately, rocks to be me, change of plan im moving into black.
Pack 2 pick 2:
Island
Prophetic Prism
Knight of Cliffhaven
Aura Finesse
Crab Umbra
--> Flame Slash
Haze Frog
Eland Umbra
Explosive Revelation
Sporecap Spider
Bloodthrone Vampire
Realms Uncharted
Champion's Drake
Gloomhunter
The slash is alot stonger than any of the other cards in the pack though I really want the prism to make playing drana easier, but im going to take the gambit on being able to pick up more fixing later, as flame slash is premium removal.
Pack 2 pick 3:
Enatu Golem
Lagac Lizard
Soul's Attendant
Naturalize
Pelakka Wurm
Puncturing Light
Reinforced Bulwark
Zulaport Enforcer
Eel Umbra
Perish the Thought
--> Merfolk Skyscout
Plains
Makindi Griffin
Intresting pack, the best card is the pekkula wurm but i clearly can not take that, thats the person feeding us reward for cutting green hard, leaving us with griffin and skyscout, skyscout is harder on the mana, but a weaker body that most the time makes no difference in this format, ultimately i would rather be ubr than ubw was the reason for the pick.
Pack 2 pick 4:
Raid Bombardment
--> Ulamog's Crusher
Time of Heroes
Tajuru Preserver
Fissure Vent
Merfolk Observer
Forest
Demystify
Inquisition of Kozilek
Glory Seeker
Fleeting Distraction
Ogre Sentry
Nothing much here but the giant winner really simple pick
Pack 2 pick 5:
Zof Shade
Goblin Arsonist
--> Sea Gate Oracle
Snake Umbra
Mountain
Pennon Blade
Battle-Rattle Shaman
Naturalize
Demonic Appetite
Glory Seeker
Totem-Guide Hartebeest
The battle rattle shamn does not fit this deck, whilst sea gate oracle gives me a guy that can dig for drana, fix my mana and other such stuff.
Pack 2 pick 6:
Brood Birthing
Sea Gate Oracle
Hand of Emrakul
Gravity Well
Renegade Doppelganger
Island
--> Prophetic Prism
Traitorous Instinct
Lavafume Invoker
Snake Umbra
I've seen little black so its looking like if we are going to splash drana, we are going to need a fiar bit of fixing, to justify it and i really do want to play it as its amazing, so prism over oracle.
Pack 2 pick 7:
--> Distortion Strike
Harmless Assault
Lay Bare
Spider Umbra
Mountain
Runed Servitor
Shared Discovery
Goblin Tunneler
Contaminated Ground
In case the fiend deck is still open seems unlikely now
Pack 2 pick 8:
Plains
Nema Siltlurker
--> Wrap in Flames
Shared Discovery
Battle Rampart
Contaminated Ground
Eland Umbra
Leaf Arrow
I think this card is a little underrated, token are so powerfull in this format, I quite like to main deck it and even if it does not make the cut i often board it in.
Pack 2 pick 9:
Jwari Scuttler
Nema Siltlurker
Mountain
Gravity Well
Haze Frog
--> Eel Umbra
Stalwart Shield-Bearers
Gives me some protection for drana, can 2 for 1 and is a solid trick, with shatterskull pass, I have 2 guys who if they stick around win the game all by themselves so good adition
Pack 2 pick 10:
Island
Aura Finesse
Haze Frog
Eland Umbra
Sporecap Spider
--> Realms Uncharted
Rare draft
Pack 2 pick 11:
Enatu Golem
--> Lagac Lizard
Reinforced Bulwark
Perish the Thought
Plains
Hill giants are still okay by me
Pack 2 pick 12:
Fissure Vent
Forest
--> Glory Seeker
Fleeting Distraction
Pack 2 pick 13:
Mountain
Demonic Appetite
--> Glory Seeker
Pack 2 pick 14:
--> Gravity Well
Island
Pack 2 pick 15:
--> Mountain
------ ROE ------
Pack 3 pick 1:
Prophetic Prism
Goblin Arsonist
Sphinx-Bone Wand
Smite
Bloodrite Invoker
--> Flame Slash
Joraga Treespeaker
Kor Line-Slinger
Plains
Wildheart Invoker
Sporecap Spider
Guard Gomazoa
Virulent Swipe
Champion's Drake
Demonic Appetite
This is much the same as much as i want the prism, premium removal is much hardr to find than the mana fixing one more piece in this pack and i should be good.
Pack 3 pick 2:
--> Hada Spy Patrol
Shrivel
Fleeting Distraction
Emrakul's Hatcher
Skywatcher Adept
Smite
Bloodrite Invoker
Forest
Ogre Sentry
Baneful Omen
Reinforced Bulwark
Wildheart Invoker
Escaped Null
Harmless Assault
This was a hard pick between the spy patrol and the hatcher, both are around the same power level i feel the hatcher allows me to ramp out crusher but i have little else to really abuse with it so far, so after much deliberation i went with the evasive beater.
Pack 3 pick 3:
Vent Sentinel
Plains
Hyena Umbra
Smite
Oust
Dread Drone
Ancient Stirrings
Ondu Giant
Lay Bare
Phantasmal Abomination
Frostwind Invoker
--> Enclave Cryptologist
Narcolepsy
Another really hard pick, narcolepsy, gives me an answer to huge monstrotities, which currently heat ray is my only answer, however cryptoligist is absurdly powerfull, i think the power of cryptologist wins out just.
Pack 3 pick 4:
Unified Will
Deprive
Wall of Omens
Stomper Cub
Merfolk Observer
Totem-Guide Hartebeest
--> Frostwind Invoker
Fissure Vent
Vent Sentinel
Swamp
Sporecap Spider
See Beyond
Here its between the deprive and the invoker again close but i went with the invoker over deprive
Pack 3 pick 5:
--> Evolving Wilds
Death Cultist
Skittering Invasion
Knight of Cliffhaven
Gloomhunter
Mountain
Irresistible Prey
Leaf Arrow
Wildheart Invoker
Wrap in Flames
Goblin Tunneler
This gives me that extra bit of fixing i was after and makes my mana solid.
Pack 3 pick 6:
Death Cultist
Glory Seeker
Lone Missionary
Nema Siltlurker
Affa Guard Hound
Forest
--> Skeletal Wurm
Living Destiny
Demystify
Battle Rampart
Another big winner, is fine
Pack 3 pick 7:
Nighthaze
Oust
Kor Spiritdancer
--> Mnemonic Wall
Living Destiny
Swamp
Demonic Appetite
Daggerback Basilisk
Lavafume Invoker
Very powerfull card only have 2 flame slash and a heat ray really but, thoose are cards your reeally hapopy getting to play twice
Pack 3 pick 8:
Zof Shade
Caravan Escort
Grotag Siege-Runner
--> Guard Duty
Prey's Vengeance
Daggerback Basilisk
Island
Not of This World
Pack 3 pick 9:
--> Sphinx-Bone Wand
Smite
Kor Line-Slinger
Plains
Sporecap Spider
Virulent Swipe
Demonic Appetite
Pack 3 pick 10:
Fleeting Distraction
Forest
--> Ogre Sentry
Baneful Omen
Reinforced Bulwark
Harmless Assault
Defensive guy
Pack 3 pick 11:
Plains
Smite
Ancient Stirrings
--> Lay Bare
Phantasmal Abomination
Its a counter which is okay in this format, gives me another situational answer to big boom booms
Pack 3 pick 12:
Unified Will
--> Stomper Cub
Fissure Vent
Swamp
Pack 3 pick 13:
Death Cultist
Mountain
--> Goblin Tunneler
Pack 3 pick 14:
--> Glory Seeker
Forest
Pack 3 pick 15:
--> Swamp
The deck
2 flame slash
1 enclave cryptologist
1 prophetic prism
1 eel umbra
1 hadra spy patrol
1 halimar wavewatcher
1 ogre sentry
1 jwari scuttler
1 sea gate oracle
1 wrap in flames
1 lay bare
2 lagac lizard
1 lord of shatterskull pass
1 merfolk skyscout
1 drana kalastria high born
1 frostwind invoker
1 memnomic wall
1 skeletal wurm
1 ulamog's crusher
7 island
3 swamp
6 mountain
2 evolving wild

| I'd pick hatcher over spy patrol and after that narcolepsy over cryptologist. While cryptologist is a very nice creature I don't think you should pick it over removal. |

could be great if you could also include how the matches went, like you do before. |

Although I agree wilds is the better card, the last few packs had gave me the instinction impression the fiend strike arch type was open so thats what i was looking to move into.
The other two picks i think are really close and just a case of preference and what your deck has already, at the time i could not do a great deal with the hatcher, but ramp into one crusher.
But im still not sure on narcolespsy vs cryptologist. My deck wanted a narcolepsy but cryptologist unchecked just out right wins game. I would not call either pick wrong i think.
Will do match reviews next draft. |

you should of hit ogre's cleaver over your 3rd pick since you were in brood birthing and hatcher colors. It is a devastating card that makes random tokens and flyers plus kiln field very very devastating with distortion strike or hada spy patrol. ogre's cleaver is very very very bomb. trust me. it's won me at least 4 drafts.
edit: excuse me pick 4. |

| I definitely think that you should have taken the Cadaver Imp Pack 1 Pick 3. It puts you in R/B starting off which can either give you the tokens deck, a solid deck w/ removal and decent creatures, or you can move into blue can have the grixis style deck w/ kiln fiends. Basically you took a random card that pack that you were hoping not to have to play rather than a card that helps put you into an archetype in the format and that you would be pretty happy to have in your deck. |
