Back with another 4-3-2-2 lost in finals, blown out by a crimson manticore, base white (almost mono) again splashing black and red for good removal, really like white in this format, think it gives you the cards to get to the late game and let your power cards win the game.

Event #: 1231826
Time: 5/18/2010 7:01:26 PM
Players:
algis
Blackozzy
Desaparecido
Tonearm
--> ElementalMox
LPUnderground
Sc4rface
alexo5

------ ROE ------

Pack 1 pick 1:
--> Brimstone Mage
Irresistible Prey
Guard Duty
Aura Gnarlid
Emrakul's Hatcher
Mnemonic Wall
Zof Shade
Soulsurge Elemental
Overgrown Battlement
Null Champion
Reinforced Bulwark
Daggerback Basilisk
Repel the Darkness
Recurring Insight
Island

Overgrown battlement, the hatcher and brimstone mage are the cards, that stand out to me, the brimstone mage is the most powerfull, but demands alot of mana to be pumped into it before it becomes worth the cost. I do not think hes such a greaqt card but still stronger than the other two picks.

Pack 1 pick 2:
Death Cultist
Lone Missionary
Unified Will
Nighthaze
Kor Line-Slinger
Ogre Sentry
--> Regress
Contaminated Ground
Soulbound Guardians
Goblin Arsonist
Shared Discovery
Harmless Assault
Baneful Omen
Swamp

The kor line slinger is good but regress can be awsome between umbras and huge eldrazi, the guardians is a solid wall but often you want to do something better when you have 5 mana than make a wall.

Pack 1 pick 3:
Goblin Tunneler
Venerated Teacher
Lay Bare
Grotag Siege-Runner
Growth Spasm
Pennon Blade
--> Dawnglare Invoker
Dormant Gomazoa
Nema Siltlurker
Spider Umbra
Distortion Strike
Demystify
Island

The dawnglare invoker is an outright bomb some decks can just do nothing about it once it reaches 8 mana, growth spasm I find to be disapoinrting and venerated teacher fits into a stratergy that never works for me so not the pick.

Pack 1 pick 4:
Death Cultist
--> Angelheart Vial
Bramblesnap
Ogre's Cleaver
Stalwart Shield-Bearers
Shrivel
Sporecap Spider
Aura Finesse
Eland Umbra
Shared Discovery
Mountain
Leaf Arrow

I saw thi in action the other day on a replay and it was good, so i wanted to try it, ended up not playing but the pack is weak overall anyway, probably ogres cleaver if not this pick.

Pack 1 pick 5:
--> Artisan of Kozilek
Mnemonic Wall
Merfolk Skyscout (FOIL)
Cadaver Imp
Snake Umbra
Aura Finesse
Lavafume Invoker
Perish the Thought
Eland Umbra
Bloodthrone Vampire
Plains

Gives me some ompth, I like to draft, slow white decks in this format based around card advantage and surviving until the late game at which point large eldrazi power through ftw.

Pack 1 pick 6:
Naturalize
Jwari Scuttler
Soul's Attendant
Deprive
Pennon Blade (FOIL)
--> Ulamog's Crusher
Spider Umbra
Bala Ged Scorpion
Fleeting Distraction
Swamp

I really like this guy he wins me alot of games

Pack 1 pick 7:
--> World at War
Raid Bombardment
Pathrazer of Ulamog
Contaminated Ground
Glory Seeker
Spider Umbra
Fissure Vent
Demystify
Mountain

Once again another rare picked, to try out that i didnt end up trying out as my deck had to many playables.

Pack 1 pick 8:
--> Survival Cache
Might of the Masses
See Beyond
Regress
Enatu Golem
Ikiral Outrider
Bloodthrone Vampire
Mountain

Here we have a choice, good blue in see beyond and regress the latter being the better of the two and survival cache, which is a staple in the sort of white draft im planning to draft that i do not think people have cuaght onto yet. As i know I will play the cache for certain it was my pick.

Pack 1 pick 9:
Mnemonic Wall
Zof Shade
Reinforced Bulwark
Daggerback Basilisk
--> Repel the Darkness
Recurring Insight
Island

Another staple in the sort of deck i am drafting.

Pack 1 pick 10:
Death Cultist
Nighthaze
Contaminated Ground
Harmless Assault
--> Baneful Omen
Swamp

Pack 1 pick 11:
Lay Bare
Dormant Gomazoa
--> Distortion Strike
Demystify
Island

Pack 1 pick 12:
Death Cultist
--> Eland Umbra
Shared Discovery
Mountain

Pack 1 pick 13:
Aura Finesse
--> Perish the Thought
Plains

Pack 1 pick 14:
--> Deprive
Swamp

Pack 1 pick 15:
--> Mountain

------ ROE ------

Pack 2 pick 1:
Death Cultist
Hedron-Field Purists
Ancient Stirrings
Champion's Drake
Dreamstone Hedron
Stalwart Shield-Bearers
Shrivel
Skywatcher Adept
Zulaport Enforcer
Corpsehatch
Brood Birthing
--> Ulamog's Crusher
Prophetic Prism
Virulent Swipe
Plains

This pick gives me my fill of fatties, corpsehatch would be nice but i have no black cards so far

Pack 2 pick 2:
Lone Missionary
Ancient Stirrings
Curse of Wizardry
Lay Bare
Jwari Scuttler
Dreamstone Hedron
Wrap in Flames
--> Staggershock
Smite
Domestication
Contaminated Ground
Null Champion
Kiln Fiend
Forest

Not sure which of domestication or staggershock is better but what i do know is, I already have a brimsonemage and world at war so its my pick,

Pack 2 pick 3:
Valakut Fireboar
Vent Sentinel
Zof Shade
Last Kiss
Might of the Masses
--> Kor Line-Slinger
Regress
Hand of Emrakul
Phantasmal Abomination
Totem-Guide Hartebeest
Kozilek's Predator
Bloodthrone Vampire
Island

The slinger is also good at buying time which is what this deck wants, I already have 4 must answer immediatly threats in, double crusher, artizan and enoker

Pack 2 pick 4:
Champion's Drake
Gloomhunter
Nighthaze
--> Soul's Attendant
Cadaver Imp (FOIL)
Luminous Wake
Haze Frog
Soulsurge Elemental
Sphinx-Bone Wand
Bala Ged Scorpion
Prophetic Prism
Forest

I considered the prism here as the cantrip is very much liked in this sort of deck but if i had took it would have been a mistake, souls attendant was amazing every game i played him gaining me so much life and buying so much time this guy loves spawn tokens.

Pack 2 pick 5:
Inquisition of Kozilek
Vent Sentinel
Grotag Siege-Runner
Makindi Griffin
Dread Drone
--> Wall of Omens
Last Kiss
Pawn of Ulamog
Essence Feed
Hyena Umbra
Forest

Tough choice between the griffin and wall, overall in this format id say the griffin is the better card but the wall is more coherent with my stratergy so was my pick.

Pack 2 pick 6:
Demonic Appetite
Mnemonic Wall
Cadaver Imp
--> Kor Line-Slinger
Snake Umbra
Hand of Emrakul
Lavafume Invoker
Goblin Arsonist
Gravity Well
Plains

Im not a huge fan of double slinger in this format as its not very aggro orrientated but can be a beast vs some decks and no of the other options are exciting.

Pack 2 pick 7:
--> Lightmine Field
Deprive
Contaminated Ground
Nema Siltlurker
Glory Seeker
Eland Umbra
Harmless Assault
Phantasmal Abomination
Island

Pack 2 pick 8:
Gloomhunter
Crab Umbra
--> Surreal Memoir
Haze Frog
Ogre Sentry
Spider Umbra
Fleeting Distraction
Plains

This cardis really powerfull in the right deck currently i only have a stagger shock and repel the darkness but if i pick up a heta ray and another removal spell its pron worth playing.

Pack 2 pick 9:
Death Cultist
Ancient Stirrings
Stalwart Shield-Bearers
Shrivel
--> Zulaport Enforcer
Brood Birthing
Plains

Strong card for this late, easy to splash also

Pack 2 pick 10:
--> Lone Missionary
Ancient Stirrings
Curse of Wizardry
Jwari Scuttler
Contaminated Ground
Forest

I actually quite like this guy he beats a little trades maybe, gets in the way of someoversized dork and just buys you the time for the power of your deck to become to much for your opponent to handle.

Pack 2 pick 11:
Zof Shade
Phantasmal Abomination
--> Totem-Guide Hartebeest
Bloodthrone Vampire
Island

Nothing to go with it yet but hopefully will be able to pick up a guard duty

Pack 2 pick 12:
Nighthaze
--> Luminous Wake
Haze Frog
Forest

Pack 2 pick 13:
Inquisition of Kozilek
--> Essence Feed
Forest

Pack 2 pick 14:
--> Demonic Appetite
Plains

Pack 2 pick 15:
--> Island

------ ROE ------

Pack 3 pick 1:
Nest Invader
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
Lay Bare
Lust for War
Growth Spasm
Battle Rampart
Puncturing Light
Aura Finesse
Zulaport Enforcer
Enclave Cryptologist
Perish the Thought (FOIL)
--> Vendetta
Runed Servitor
Bloodthrone Vampire
Swamp

Did'nt rare draft for once, my deck is almost entirely mono white so splashing for a vendeatta should be easy, plus it makes my memoir much better

Pack 3 pick 2:
Frostwind Invoker
Deprive
Sporecap Spider
Dread Drone
Luminous Wake
Soulsurge Elemental
See Beyond
Skittering Invasion
--> Heat Ray
Ondu Giant
Bala Ged Scorpion
Merfolk Observer
Ikiral Outrider
Forest

Am now so glad i took the memoir, deck is now starting to look really strong

Pack 3 pick 3:
Death Cultist
Living Destiny
Deprive
Surreal Memoir
Raid Bombardment
--> Soulbound Guardians
Nema Siltlurker
Glory Seeker
Spider Umbra
Traitorous Instinct
Demystify
Mountain (FOIL)
Mountain

The second memoir felt to much, I have little time to pick up more instants and guardains is a nice answer to most aerial creatures.

Pack 3 pick 4:
Curse of Wizardry
Lay Bare
Aura Gnarlid
Soul's Attendant (FOIL)
Dreamstone Hedron
--> Last Kiss
Hand of Emrakul
Null Champion
Kiln Fiend
Sea Gate Oracle
Hyena Umbra
Forest

As i am splashing for vendetta already this is a welcome addition, more life gain cards for me buying me the all important time, dreamstone hedron has beeen really disappointing for me, the majorty of the time its 9 mana for 3 cards let me introduce you to ancestral recall lol

Pack 3 pick 5:
Valakut Fireboar
Spawning Breath
Ancient Stirrings
Makindi Griffin
Dread Drone
Stomper Cub
See Beyond
Zulaport Enforcer
Ikiral Outrider
--> Prophetic Prism
Forest

Really glad to pick up one of these now as im splashing a little red and a little black, deck loves cantrips and life gain, as it needs time and mana

Pack 3 pick 6:
Death Cultist
Naturalize
Lightmine Field
Jwari Scuttler
Shrivel
--> Mammoth Umbra
Reality Spasm
Merfolk Observer
Demystify
Swamp

Great an umbra and a really good one at that to fetch with my totem:)

Pack 3 pick 7:
Guard Duty
Lavafume Invoker
Daggerback Basilisk
Essence Feed
Essence Feed (FOIL)
--> Knight of Cliffhaven
Not of This World
Affa Guard Hound
Mountain

Pretty good early and a reasoanble win condition late welcome addition

Pack 3 pick 8:
Death Cultist
Kor Spiritdancer
--> Puncturing Light
Goblin Arsonist (FOIL)
Essence Feed
Demystify
Leaf Arrow
Plains

Situational removal is still removal

Pack 3 pick 9:
Lay Bare
Lust for War
--> Puncturing Light
Aura Finesse
Perish the Thought (FOIL)
Bloodthrone Vampire
Swamp

Prob do not wnat to play 2

Pack 3 pick 10:
--> Deprive
Luminous Wake
See Beyond
Merfolk Observer
Ikiral Outrider
Forest

Do not want my crushers countered

Pack 3 pick 11:
Death Cultist
Living Destiny
--> Raid Bombardment
Demystify
Mountain

Pack 3 pick 12:
Curse of Wizardry
Lay Bare
--> Soul's Attendant (FOIL)
Forest

Nice

Pack 3 pick 13:
Ancient Stirrings
--> Zulaport Enforcer
Forest

Wow!

Pack 3 pick 14:
--> Demystify
Swamp

Soild board card

Pack 3 pick 15:
--> Essence Feed

The deck

1 vendetta
1 soul's attendant
1 prophetic prism
1 puncturing light
1 knight of the cliffhaven
1 kor line slinger
1 lone missonary
1 wall of omens
1 survival cache
1 last kiss
1 repel the darkness
1 staggershock
1 brimstonemage
1 dawnglare invoker
1 surreal memoir
1 mammoth umbra
1 soulbound guardian
1 totem-guide hartebeest
2 ulamogs crusher
1 artisan of kovilek
1 heat ray
11 plains
3 swamp
4 mounatin

Feedback appreciated.

Was really happy with the deck is was creature stealing manticore that beat me in finals, grab the reigns like cards can be a problem depednat on draw , opponent topped deck 6th land to play it right after i had hit, 8, with crusher and kovilek in hand game 3, no way he was coming back with out that card.

Feedback appreciated.

Playing 2X Crusher, 1X Artisan seems like a lot. But I guess if that was your move...

I may have hated Hatch or grabbed a Prism over it in pack 2.

your deck of 0 mana ramp while passing up 2 dreamstone hedrons for inferior cards confuses me....

good thing you were playing 4-2-2-1 where all the players are awful cause god your deck coulda been so much better

I played draemstone hedron multiple times and it was always really bad, so ive stopped playing it. The deck isnt a ramp, it runs life game and cantrips to get to the late game plus the many subtle ways the deck has to generate card advantage.

At the end of the day, a modo 4-3-2-2 is still a hell of alot better than a magic-league draft. Funny thing is all these people calling 4-3-2-2 awfull prob cant make money playing them or an 8-4 for that matter. So in a way its like calling yourself awfull.

I dont play on ML drafts either... only play 8-4s and go infinite...

and ive drafted in person 16 times so far since this format started and have not missed prizes once.....

and the whole point of going late game with card advantage... so a 3:1 is not good then eh?... playing crusher and artisan easily and earlier isnt good? Ive won countless games off Dreamstone.... cast relevant spells... once mana isnt an issue draw 3...

I tried it multiple times and, it was a let down as i thought it was good to begin with, I'll give it another chance.

Dreamstone Hedron is really good. It ramps well and, most importantly, draws you cards.
