Am I the only person that found this to be an extremely boring top eight for an event that is typically known for having top eights that feature insane/innovative breakthrough decks?
I guess a fairly innovative approach to reanimation winning is fairly wild, but yeah...meh...kind of unspectacular all the same. |

| Well, top decks are solid and were played more than anything else; it's simple statistics that with that many rounds, they're far likelier to Top 8 than anything else. So yeah, maybe disappointed, but not surprised. |

A lot of innovative decks made day 2, but in the end most of them fell a little short.
I played BWgr homebrew rock metagamed against zoo, merfolk, goblins and bant with 13 SB cards against ANT.
I ended up 40th. Was pretty happy with that but I could definetely have made top8 if I didn't get super unlucky vs saito.
Matchups
Day 1:
Bye
Bye
Bye
Zoo 2-1
ANT 0-2 (he had turn 2 and turn 1 kill hands)
Supreme Blue 2-0
ANT 2-1
RW Burn/Sligh 2-1
Zoo 2-1
Day 2:
Bant Loam 1-1
Bant Countertop 2-0
Bant stoneforge mystic deck, played by that guy who missed the angel of despair trigger against kibbler 0-2
ANT 2-1
Bant Countertop 2-0
ANT 1-2 Against saito. I win game 1 on the back of double thoughseize goyf goyf. I sideboard in 13 cards in this matchup, yet I have the worst luck ever having to mulligan down to 4 both in game 2 and game 3 due to getting hilariously bad hands. 4 land 3 tops anyone?
Zoo 2-1
Dreadstill 1-1 (could have won and gone top32 but made a mistake with my pithing needle so he could steal game 2. tired I guess)
12-3-2

That's pretty respectable in my opinion. I mean, you got to gunsling with some great players and got fortieth which is pretty good considering that the GP is the biggest 1.5 event that I know of.
You mind sharing your list by pm or just posting it? I am pretty curious. If you like I can show you what I would have ended up brining if I had the means(read $$$$) and time to go to the GP.
Shitty luck for sure, but at least it was against a pro. I swear that the prestigious Asian players have some sort of mojo that involves their stealing all the luck out of their non-pro opponents and channeling it into themselves. When I have gone to Vancouver my deck has choked so hard in important matches versus the prestigious local players(all awesome guys and players generally so it isn't like I can hate on them for it...just a weird coincidence).
I digress though, congrats on getting where you did before luck intervened. |
