I was playing my fun/semi-competitive monowhite Kor/Emeria deck, and I put out Iona against a Jund player. I named black, and he said "Why would you do that?!" Personally I'd thought it was obvious to name black, as there's nothing in Red/Green Jund has that would kill Iona or make me worry.

This guy was on mwsplay.net so that could explain it, but I was wondering what other people name for colors, and give explanation if possible.

g1, I would name red. This eliminates Terminates, Chandra, etc.

g2, black. They probably sided in Malakir Bloodwitch, Deathmark, and/or Vampire Nighthawk.

Maelstrom Pulse would kill it game one then.

Since Jund runs fewer Chandra (if any) than Maelstrom Pulses main, and Terminate is black, it is always correct to choose black unless you know he plays Chandra.

If he got a broodmate dragon in play already, it may be a good idea to choose red, though.

It all depends on your knowledge of his Jund build.

is Iona so small that Chandra can kill her?

It's the correct play to name BLACK. He was probably mulling over Bloodbraid into Terminate or Maelstrom pulse (both are black, so I think your opponent can't play them). Unless you have a strong feeling he has three lightning bolts in hand, BLACK is the colour to go.

I voted blue as it's the closest to what I would do. Can anyone guess what it is?

hint: it's not naming white!

I voted blue, for the lulz for serious answers to the qusetion life total is relevant if your at 3 life or less you may well want to name red and not black.

Indeed.

If you can be burned to death, name red.
Otherwise, name black every time.

Well apparently this shows a bunch of trolls out...

And yeah, I think it kinda goes without saying that if I have 3 life left I would call red. Smile

Thanks for the verification that I'm not crazy and Black *is* a good color to call.
