"Piracy"
Info: Color = Blue Type = Sorcery Cost = UU Edition = Portal Second Age (P2)
Errata: This turn, you may tap lands you don't control to help pay for your spells.
When played under non-Portal rules, the text should be read as "Until end of turn, you may play mana abilities of lands you don't control, putting the mana they generate into your mana pool. Use mana produced this way only to play spells." [DeLaney 2000/06/09]
All tournament formats have banned this card because it only appears in Portal and Starter.
OW, MY BRAIN. Kay. So. In other words............what? Portal has different rules? O_O <--that one sort of got answered. But not really, since this topic is half a joke.
Lemme edit it so that someone with an answer that is useful(ish?) can reply...

Afaik there where a few rules which, the developers of portal found too difficult for beginners, so they modified them a lil bit.
But anyway that card is useless under the latest rules, cause your opponent, could just tap his lands in response, as he won't be manaburned anymore. |

| The rules are the same for portal I think. Except I think you could use a 40 card deck in Portal. That card seems really lame now though since there is no mana burn the other guy can just tap all his lands? |

You can't tap lands just because you feel like it, you need priority or something aloowing you to play mana abilities. So you would have to tap all your lands in the upkeep as soon as possible to stop an opponent from using Piracy to play his spells. That is of course still possible, but you can't wait to see what he casts.
And yes, Portal had different rules. There were no instants for starters. Best to ignore that part though...
Edit: Right. Can't.

Er..you DID mean "You can't tap . . ." right? I'm not making fun by asking; you made another typo in that post, and you never make typos. o.o So..I'm not sure.
But that aside..I was only asking because a Portal 2 sealed mini was running. And I thought that a spell of such uselessness as Piracy was funny. Then it occurred to me that I wasn't sure if there had EVER been a use to it, so I asked. I somehow managed to forget to factor in the existence of mana burn at the time that it was printed. o.o Stupid rules change, confusin' mah brainz. x.x |

I'm not sure if I'm hearing you, but here's how it works.
"In response to you playing a stupid card I tap all my lands for mana."
So the card might as well say target opponent taps all his lands unless he wants to give you free mana for some reason. |

Ugh. I mixed Piracy with Coastal Piracy. I somehow thought it was an enchantment.
Yes. When they play this sorcery you just tap your lands and it doesn't do much after that. My bad. |
