almost all black removal has downsides... and looka t flavor: black should have THE killspells.

what black spell i the end-all?
deathmark only 2 colors.
doomblade nonblack and regen.
shriekmaw sorcery and nonblack.

there hasn't been an end-all answer since damnation. and they deserve to have it, tbh.

all that being said- why do you have an issue with it. there's only one black deck in standard and the ones in older formats DON'T PLAY this 'amazing removal' because blue removal is better.

1UU - Counter target spell. THAT spell sucks.

1U - Counter target creature spell. THAT spell sucks.

1U - Counter target non-creature spell. THAT spell sucks.

Doomblade, not so much.

Its called Color-Pie

Its the reason
Black destroys
Red deals direct damage
White exiles
Blue Bounces
Green hugs trees

Black gets to revive stuff from the graveyard
Red gets to be hasty
White prevents damage
Blue draws cards
Green buffs stuff and accelerates mana

i could go on

Every color has its specific characteristics and abilities. Some spells are doable for other colors, but will always be cheaper in their "native" colors. A multicolored spell will take aspects of both colors most of the time to still stay true to the color pie.

Example:
1BR Blightning = 2B MindRot + R Lightning Bolt
BW Zealous Persecution = BB Marsh Casualties + 1W Glorious Charge

I've noticed 'beginners' always complain about black destroy spells. Eventually they learn they aren't as imbalanced as they thought they were. I must admit, I was the same way, but then again I always ran a casual black deck so I didn't do the complaining.

bring back counterspell and force spike for blue. For god sake's at least a @#%@#$ mana leak.

wait #$%@% mana leak last thing I need to see is aggro decks splashing 1 island and 4 sac lands for mana leaks.

Give me counterspell you jerks. at least UU counter unless you pay 4.

Cancel has nerfbat written all over it.

Guess i missed out on all that misslead feeling of imbalance and that casual approach to magic. First deck i ever played was Cedric Phillip's Kith, then Faeries and then Cruel Control (yes, im newschool Wink)

Ye, theres just so many things "destoy" doesnt answer. Shroud, protection, wrong colors, indestructible, comes into / leaves play, sac abilities, regeneration.
