|
|
So I was looking for a deck to proxy up for a friend. I'd never played a deck with Loam in it before but had heard good things, didn't really know how it worked or anything. So I figured, "Hey, I'll just make em a Loam deck." I printed him up this Aggro Loam list, pretty much card for card:
1 Temple Garden
2 Scalding Tarn
1 Steam Vents
2 Horizon Canopy
1 Fire-Lit Thicket
4 Arid Mesa
3 Flagstones of Trokair
1 Rugged Prairie
1 Snow-Covered Forest
1 Snow-Covered Plains
2 Snow-Covered Mountain
1 Ghost Quarter
2 Misty Rainforest
2 Sacred Foundry
2 Stomping Ground
3 Bloodbraid Elf
4 Tarmogoyf
4 Countryside Crusher
4 Knight of the Reliquary
3 Life from the Loam
4 Lightning Helix
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Seismic Assault
3 Boom/Bust
2 Path to Exile
I put it together and played it myself to figure out how it works and, holy shit, it's like my new favorite deck! Loam - Assualt, where've ya been all my life!?!? (Yes, I know it's old news, I'd just never encountered it).
Anyhow, I've been trying to search up info about it but every article is very old and discusses cards that are no longer extended viable (bummer I "discovered" this after cycling lands lol) So I was wondering what sort of twists or variations people are seeing or using I like the list as is a lot, but I did make 2 small changes (aside from my basics not being snow-covered):
- 1 Steam Vents + 1 Stomping Ground No idea why vents was in there in the 1st place. I guess because of the Med Mages in the SB? Surely there's something better.
- 1 Lightning Helix + 1 Loam I could see some people disagree with this move, but I also don't think those who do could claim I'm really harming the deck much. But I find that I very much like having Loams, and am more than happy to have a 2nd one. I mean really, I think it's downright silly to play only 3 Loams, but as I'm new to the deck, I'm open to someone with more experience telling me why it's not. But I am WAY happier to peel a Loam than a burn, and feel more comfy with a 4:7 ratio than 3:8.
Now I have an idea for another change: taking out 2 more burn spells(only because I cant think of anything else worth giving up) and putting in 2 Scapeshifts. Thoughts? Seems like a beautiful play with loam, Crusher, Relequary, and even Bloodbraid (fewer burn = more likely to cascade into a creature)
What else are people sideboarding with this? Or is the SB I posted pretty much accepted and ideal, local metagames notwithstanding?
Thanks guys! You know your deck is good when Goyf is your worst creature lol |

| Dude, check out the Decks section of the site, there's a Zoo Scapeshift version. Not exactly aggro loam, but you could have a transformative sideboard. I love the scapeshift version, since Knight of the Reliquary gets a LOT stronger, plus there's the alternative win of Valakut (using scapeshift). Yeah, lots of fun to play |

| The Crusher gets way stronger too. I just dont wanna mess up any other synergies or rob the deck of resources, or mess up the curve, etc etc. But its definitely at least worth testing. And would you agree the helizes are what need to come out for them? (I'm thinking 2 for 2) |
