|
|
I Just reactivated my personal ventrilo server for myself and my son to use when we test decks on MWS. I figure I might ask around and see how many would be interested if I opened it up for MtG players to use while they play online MWS. Right now the server cap is only 10, but can easily be increased for more people.
thoughts? |

| personally i think it would be great to have a ventrillo server. it just makes it so much more personable. however, i wouldn't just open it up to anybody. it will get flooded really fast and might not have the slots open for the people you want on the server (i.e. friends and your son). |

also, I like to add that when playing league matches or tournaments, you might run into some problems, since the spoken conversation is not logged as the written logsd, so it might give some problems when one player is startaing to protest, "I told you to stop...." or "I said I wanted ot do something in your upkeep....". Written logs are more efficient in things like that.
I must admit though that playing using verbal communication would make the gameflow better, and make it more similar to the RL play experience (barring the usual non-verbal communication like facial expression etc.), but it is best suitable for simple league matches or testing, and not very suitable for higher level tournaments etc.

Well I do not know anyone online that runs MWS that plays MtG, actually me and him do not know anyone that plays, we just do ALOT of netting around forums, reading articles online etc etc. We have one friend we met named Kris who posts on tcg and Salvation, but other than that noone else.
Like I said I have a server up, if there are people that would like to have use of a stable ventrilo server thats up 24/7 PM me or email me at james_fullard@hotmail.com
I can shoot you the info and password. I do ask a few things though.
1. If your not in a match with someone and do not plan to be playing it within a short time, leave the server so as to not suck up player slots.
2. no AFKing in the vent
3. No outside inviting, unless there close friends of yours or regular playing partners, if they are just people you meet? Send them to me for an invite but all are welcome.
Basically to put it all in a nutshell, don't abuse the girl |

I am not looking at letting folks use it for tournaments, just casual online play and deck testing on MWS. If people (like me) have 1 or 2 people they test with on a regular bases) then thats what the server is for.
I know me personally I HATE typing, it is so much easier to speak whats going on, not having to keep clicking the damned phases etc etc, you can just play MtG on MWS as if your sitting at a table, you just verbally say what turn your at etc etc |

I think the reason Magic League doesn't already have a vent server is: most Magic Leaguers are extremely poor and there are many different languages spoken.
It's a good idea. Get a server and get Magic League up to speed with what became standard in every other gaming community in 2000 or 2001. |

This comparison doesn't make much sense, given that ventrilo/teamspeak/skype/w/e are used in games mainly for two reasons, 1) you cannot type and act at the same time, since both use your hands, but you can talk and act and 2) you have the need to coordinate with your teammates in a speed faster than that which you can type; Those don't really apply to magic, so... |

No need to shrug. As said, I like the idea, butI always have to point out things that will cause problems for people .
I especially like the faster communications when using teamspeak etc. typing things always tends to slow down gameplay.
