this game is relentless. i left this game about in... 1996/97. i played in a few sealed/draft tournaments apparently from time to time (after looking in my old box) but nothing much after mirage. coming back to mtg after 12 or so years is like... mind blowing! anyways, i want to test my deck...
based on what i see in the new cards... this could get into the last round of a T2 tourney:
44 Relentless Rats
16 swamps.

i think 40 rats and 20 swamps is a good test deck to see if your deck just gets winded by a half-ass deck. guess the deck should really be more like 80 rats and 40 swamps, that way the mill decks won't work heh. |

At first I was like
Then I was like
Then I realized you weren't trolling and I was like
Then I thought about my reaction coming back to MTG after a 7 year break just 6 weeks ago and I was like |

This deck loses to Haunting Echoes and Maelstrom Pulse.
But of course, the main problem is Scute Mob, it solos this deck np. |

so black is the top of the food chain??
firstly, i have to say that i am not trolling, it should have been fairly obvious that the rotting rats was just a metaphor for the big ugly black deck. black seems like it would pull out all the punches but you know what? in the tourney i was in, the stock Zendikar black vampires deck went down in flames to a 5 color control deck. no shit. i would have loved to see the finish of the tourney, but the card shop kicked everyone out who was not in the final 4. seems like that would be a DCI violation or something, i mean, why pay the money to be in a tourney if you cant evn see who wins?
the deck i played was really lame, i basically walked in that thursday night and traded about 50$ worth of old stock for some new zen and conflux cards. i wanted to get some cascade, but i couldnt find one person who would trade anything. and nobody would even trade one anathemancer or maelstrom pulse. things have become a little stiff with the trade scene.
i dont think that black is nearly as good as everyone thinks it is. the other strong deck in the tourney had 3 lotus cobras 4 mana birds, and harrows. basically, you were dealing with either a Baneslayer, or an Ob nixilis on turn 3. he also had bolts and Rise from the Grave. really strong. he said that he would add some white, but i dont think he should screw with that formula too much. i mean, a broodmate dragon is really hard to deal with, let alone on turn 3.
oh... and the guy running scute mob lost. he was running the zoo deck with ranger of eos to bring them in, but he got wiped out somehow... prolly cause scute mob isn't trample or flying so it just sits there, gets fat, and eats a blocker every turn. |
