if u have mastermind u can canvince everyone taht the set you want is the best set ever. because this is one part of why magic isnt dead.
design space is infinite in such card games, just look at tcgs in general. maro talks only shit.

I would consider Tempest to be very influencial given the amount of players that picked up magic again, or for the first time, as I believe was already mentioned.

To name sets based one 1 or 2 cards that effected magic is rediculus because then almost every set affected magic substantially (certainly WotC would like to think that), but ultimatly, its those sets with a wealth of cards, that destroyed type 2 and then held strong in other formats, like I wouldnt count future sight, simply because of goyf... and you shouldnt pick alpha given it was the bloody first set. It didnt affect magic it began it. There are also those sets with crazy mechanics to be considered. Like cascade for example, while I wouldnt choose Reborn as a set that made a serious impact on magic, cascade is a prime example of a broken ability that changes how constructed looks.

Seems like it's not only MaRo who does that...

Anyway Urza's Block, as mentioned, was pretty revolutionary, just look at all the bannings, it's just crazy and imagine that in T2, i'm pretty sure people recall it even if i don't.

Planeswalkers are lame. Terrible addition to the game. The players are planeswalkers, yet you're saying I can "summon" another planeswalker for a mere 3 mana and have him fight for me and he only knows 3 spells? Lame.

Mirage started blocks.

M10 changed some rules, killed mana burn being the most significant in the grand scheme of things.

Invasion block was the first one to have a ton of gold cards since Legends. Really opened up the card design and began the power creep (kavu rg 3/4, shivan wurm, spirit monger etc.). That's how we ended up where we are today, with Bane Slayer and so forth.
