I always loved Gifts Ungiven and played it a lot over the extended season in different ways.
The most obvious deck for Gifts Ungiven is Tron, but I played it a lot and I wanted to play something different.
I remebered the Gifts Rock decks Patrick Chapin was playing at PT Berlin and Robert Graves was playing at Worlds 2008 and I knew I wanted to give it a try:
I dug out the Deckcheck Video on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WN1oDvakoS8&feature=related
Lands (24)
4 Misty Rainforest
4 Verdant Catacombs
3 Breeding Pool
3 Watery Grave
1 Overgrown Tomb
1 Stomping Ground
1 Murmuring Bosk
1 Forest
1 Snow-Covered Forest
1 Swamp
1 Snow-Covered Swamp
1 Island
1 Academy Ruins
1 Ghost Quarter
Creatures (13)
4 Tarmogoyf
4 Sakura-Tribe Elder
4 Kitchen Finks
1 Eternal Witness
other Spells (23)
4 Gifts Ungiven
4 Duress
3 Maelstrom Pulse
3 Engineered Explosives
2 Damnation
1 Life from the Loam
1 Worm Harvest
1 Raven's Crime
1 Ancient Grudge
1 Vedalken Shackles
1 Umezawa's Jitte
1 Reclaim
Sideboard (15)
3 Ancient Grudge
3 Spike Fedder
3 Threads of Disloyalty
2 Thoughtseize
1 Tormod's Crypt
1 Damnation
1 Clearwater Goblet
1 Darkblast
As I said, i wanted a Rock deck and no Control deck, so there are no counterspells in the deck.
I'm sorry for no further explainantions, but I often feel like people don't read it anyway and I'm kinda lazy right now. =P
But if there are any questions about the deck or any of my card choices in particiular, I will answer them as soon as possible.
Thanks for reading, I hope you will enjoy the deck and/or help to improve it. =) |

| WOW this deck looks like fun to play! the only things i could possibly think of main deck duress becoming thoughtseize and spike feeder becoming loxodon heirarch, but i'm really not that knowledgeable on this archetype |

I actually played Thoughtseize first, but i always boarded them out versus any agressive decks like Zoo or Burn.
I mainly needed them to improve my matchup versus several control decks around like NLU, Tron or Tezzerator to get rid of their counterspells so I'm able to resolve my Gifts Ungiven.
Which means, that I never needed Thoughtseize to get rid of any creatures, so Duress is better than Thoughtseize vs control because I save 2 Life and vs Zoo, Burn or I need every point of Life I can get anyway and Duress still gets their burn spells in game 1 and then I board them out.
I only splash white mana with Murmuring Bosk in case I need to set up a Clearwater Goblet or an Engineered Explosives for 5, so I thought Spike Fedder is better because I dont need white mana. But I will certainly test it out. |

| if white mana is a problem, then i could see just keeping the spike feeders. i figured with eight fetches that specify a forest, getting the murmuring bosk shouldn't be too hard, but i haven't really played the deck much |

| ok i don't know if this belongs in here, but im trying to make an extended deck utilizing gifts ungiven, death cloud and world queller i went off the base of karsten's deck from the 2005 world championships and cut about 95% of the deck leaving pretty much only the farseeks and gifts in. But my question is is a deck like the one i just described possible in the field full of what should be zoo, RDW, BDW, tezzerator, GB deathcloud, and affinity? |

| do you keep in duress against aggro? mana base looks a little rough, murmuring bosk<temple garden. if you need gb you get tomb other wise you just need a white so u use temple garden. the deck needs maindeck life gain like finks. its good in all match ups. |

The two posters before me: reading is hot tech.
Kitchen Finks have been in the main deck since Mod_Counter started this thread. |

I've always wondered this with Gifts decks (as I have 0 experience with them), if you resolve Gifts, which 4 cards (from this build) do you choose? Is the idea to present them with 4 cards that are so powerful, that we benefit from putting the 4rd and 4th choices into our hand?
PS. If the video linked in the original post explains this, I apologize as I'm at work so I cant watch it now. But if it does, I'll check when I get home for sure. |
