| also, what ModCounter said about people pointing burn or removal at it: Tarmogoyf just a hassle for them. i wouldn't play it turn two versus, say, a signet or a wall of roots so I can build my mana, but turn 3 that leaves me open to play a tarmogoyf AND have mana open for condescend/remand, which is rather brutal. also, zoo decks tend to chump and throw a lightning bolt/lightning helix at it, netting you some card advantage in the process. i was playing Tarmogoyf in the board, but you side him in for every matchup; he's really that good. |

Any deck that runs green, specially Control-ish decks should run Goyf, it's been said over and over for ages now;
There is no other creature that is solid or cost-efficient enough to match Goyf, period.
I disagree to a certain extent about playing him early, however, he will die to a Bolt if he's a 1/2, so perhaps turn 3 is better suited, since as you mentioned, you will have counter backup available. |

told you goyf was good in this deck how has the red been doing, now w/o firespouts i dont know if its needed, i geuss can explosive for 3 but if u cut it there are other replacements for grudge. and it would let you play less fetches which i never rly liked in tron. |

| honestly, the Affinity matchup is so damn bad that i need whatever i can get, explosives tends to just soak up whatever gets in under countermagic and a random treetop village. is there anything in blue or green that would hose affinity well? |

Been wondering, how will you deal with potential combo decks, like maybe Dragonstorm or so?
My suggestion is Voidslime, or Trickbind, since Stifle is out. |

| i honestly haven't played against a single combo deck, even when i was testing this pre-rotation, so i didn't think they were going to be well considered. i figured countering a vital ritual/lotus bloom might stall long enough to race with Tarmogoyf or get Mindslaver online, but like i said, i haven't played against one, which doesn't feel right |

It just doesn't make any sense to me why people are still running tron and trying to play control with it instead of just playing tooth and nail. All of the stuff you're trying to do with tron mono green tooth or Gu tooth just does better.
Tooth and Nail for Iona, Shield of Esperia and Painter's Servant is a lock.
Not to mention if you play mono green you get good anti-aggro stuff like Sakura Tribe Elder and Vine Trellis (along with the already very good Solemn Simulacrum). You can still play with fetches and loam, but you also get sylvan scrying and reap and sow.
And, as the deck proved when it was legal in Standard, it's hyper resilient to disruption, often just hard casting darksteel colossus and/or sundering titan and ignoring the combo altogether. |

because then you scoop to combo and any deck with countermagic? and i don't think the deck is anymore "hyper-resilient" to disruption than any other tron deck would, based on what you've explained to me.
gifts ungiven does what you want tooth and nail to do, for four mana at instant speed. you get mindslaver, academy ruins, life from the loam, and your missing tron piece and you just plain untap and win. |

right... unless they've a) combo'd off or b) have counter magic for your mindslaver... so your list loses just as much as tooth?

mindbreak trap beats combo, i hear. tough to sideboard in, though... oh wait.
boseiju forces your tooth through counter magic, i hear. tough to play a singleton maindeck though, since you don't have at minimum 10 maindeck tutors for it... oh wait.
// Lands
1 [TSP] Academy Ruins
2 [DIS] Breeding Pool
2 [FUT] Tolaria West
5 [ZEN] Forest (1)
2 [ZEN] Island (3)
1 [CHK] Boseiju, Who Shelters All
4 [CH] Urza's Mine (3)
4 [AQ] Urza's Power Plant (2)
4 [AQ] Urza's Tower (4)
// Creatures
1 [SHM] Painter's Servant
1 [FD] Eternal Witness
4 [CHK] Sakura-Tribe Elder
4 [TSB] Wall of Roots
1 [CHK] Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
1 [ZEN] Iona, Shield of Emeria
2 [DS] Sundering Titan
1 [DS] Darksteel Colossus
// Spells
1 [RAV] Life from the Loam
1 [10E] Crucible of Worlds
1 [MR] Mindslaver
3 [CHK] Gifts Ungiven
2 [TSP] Spell Burst
4 [MR] Tooth and Nail
4 [10E] Sylvan Scrying
4 [DS] Reap and Sow
// Sideboard
SB: 4 [ZEN] Mindbreak Trap
SB: 2 [TSB] Gaea's Blessing
SB: 3 [MR] Chalice of the Void
SB: 3 [RAV] Bottled Cloister
SB: 3 [ALA] Relic of Progenitus
this list has been testing amazingly well... you can gifts for the mindslaver lock, as in your deck, but you also have 4 additional "i just won" cards in tooth and nail. |
