Pyromancer Ascension
1R
Enchantment
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell that has the same name as a card in your graveyard, you may put a quest
counter on Pyromancer Ascension.
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell while Pyromancer Ascension has two or more quest counters on it, you may copy that spell. You may choose new targets for that copy.

No.

You have to throw this down. then, you have to cast spells. Then, cast at least 2 matching spells to the ones in your GY.

If you dont draw this, your deck will just get blown out like all creatureless burn decks that preceded it.

and if you do draw this, and get it into play, you still have to have matching spells.

THEN, it finally gets some action. But, by that time, a real creature deck will have killed you, and the control deck will have answered this card.

i was asking a serious question as to why you would want to play a creatureless burn deck when there are good burn creatures. its not like it makes the quest enchantment worse. there are only so many good burn spells you want to cast.

The only answer we can provide right now is that, according to spoilers, there is not enough power in a red burn creatureless deck, and the enchantment you've provided us is not enough to push the archetype into tier 1 on its own. imho, the enchantment isn't even constructed playable unless some powerful interaction occurs, and burning inquiry isn't it. however, there has been a playable and decent-to-powerful red deck in every standard environment since i've started playing standard in mirrodin and a good portion of them have been tier 1 threats.

Too bad Flame Jab will be rotating, that would have pushed this card over the edge.

It seems like a decent enough idea. Works with Blightning or LD, could be good. I mean really, it doesn't have to be a RED instant or sorcery, so maybe even UR with the new fetches and some "divinations" or something, this deck could really get rolling.

Black could be used for some kind of sorcery or instant that just discards or forcing a creature sacrifice. Maybe even a WGR deck utilizing Captured Sunlight, Reborn Hope or even Day of Judgement.

As long as you don't visualize the enchantment in a very limited 1 dimensional fashion (ie, mono red burn) it does seem to have some nice potential. We'll have to wait and see what else Zen brings to the table.

No.

For a creatureless burn deck to be tier 1 in T2, Wizard needs to reprint Ensnaring Bridge.

Blightning, Bituminous Blast, Infest, Terminate

U for Tome Scour and Merfolk Looter which accelerates us.

unless you discard lands, which will happen quite often, and you still need the matching spells.

This card sucks. A lot. Its all Johnny and no Spike.

And no, a creatureless deck won't really be viable because creatures have been pushed. The best deck includes creatures in T2.

This isn't to say you couldn't build this deck, just that it won't be good.

jacois, fame jab is actually probably the worst hit one this card of all the retraces. copying spitting image or call the skybreaker would be much better. play it IN THE control deck and have cruel ultimatum as your uber win.
