i know pithing needle will stop planeswalkers but i'm confused on some other abilities
say i have a platinum angel out, and my oppenent casts pithing needle and calls platinum angel will platinum angel's ability still stay?
also say i play the new angel iona sheild of emoria (something like that) comes into play but my opponent had pithing need out and called its name before i played it. Do i still get to call a color? |

| Pithing Needle stops ACTIVATED abilities. Not triggered abililities. Activated abilities always have a cost ; effect. Triggered abilities usually say "when", or "whenever". They 'trigger' when something happens, i.e comes into play, dies, etc. |

Pithing Needle will not interact with Platinum Angel's ability. The Angel's ability is static, not activated.
Pithing Needle:"As Pithing Needle comes into play, name a card.
Activated abilities of the named card can't be played unelss they're mana abilities." |

| If you mean Llanowar Elves, then yes that would be an activated ability, and a mana ability. Birds of Paradise, Milikin, and Island all have activated mana abilities, also. |

Those are activated mana abilities and Pithing Needle makes exceptions for mana abilities. Check the latest Oracle wording.
