|
|
These 2 situations came about as I was messing around with my affinity deck. About the 2nd one I have an educated guess, the 1st one an uneducated look on my face. Any light to be shed, fellow experts?
Situation 1 (modular):
-I attack with Arcbound Worker and Frogmite.
-Opponent blocks Worker with a 1/1 and Frogmite with a 2/2, so they should both trade deaths.
-But when worker dies, he can pass along his modular. Can I put it on the Frogmite, allowing it to win its fight?
It seems like if the damage discussion begins with Frogmite, the answer is no, since it will die before it can get a counter. But if it begins with Worker, the answer is yes because as it dies, it can slip Froggie the mickey. And on the assumption the fights are considered simulataneous, then I'm left scratching my head and posting a thread on magic-league.com. I'm guessing by now this question has an established answer, but I'm a little new to affinity, so sorry if so.
Situation 2 (sacrifice) is similar:
-I attack with Atog and Arcbound Worker.
-Opponent blocks Atog with a 2/2 and Worker with a 1/1
-The Worker will, again, exchange fates with the 1/1. But can I, as an instant effect, sacrifice him to Atog beefing it to 3/4?
On this one I'm guessing the answer is yes, but since Worker threw itself upon the sword, the opponent's 1/1 gets to survive as if it never got into a tussle at all.
Am I warm? Cold? Fire/Ice? Yuk yuk. Anyway, I was messing around with my new sick ass affinity deck and both situations came up and I wasn't too sure about the rulings. Can anyone answer target questions?
Thanks in advance!

Situation 1: This will not work, since all combat damage is dealt at once (barring things like first strike and double strike), meaning that after combat damage has been assigned and dealt, both of the creatures will die as a state-based action.
Situation 2: You sure can, and as you say, the opponents 1/1 will survive, as there is nothing to deal combat damage to it anymore when that time comes. |

Cool, thanks! I figured situation 1 would be too good to be true, but just wanted to find out why before assuming. Thanks again! |
