I love altrenate wining conditions. This deck is not a deck that wins turn 2 10% of the time and turn 13 the other 90%. It is very consistant. A good opening only needs forest and vulervent silver. This deck is great for casual and only costs $10. I need some ideas on how to make it better. I made it with budget in mind but now I just want the best deck for MWS. Here is the deck:
// Deck file for Magic Workstation
// Lands
11 Forest
13 Island
// Creatures
4 Marsh Viper
4 Sabertooth Cobra
4 Virulent Sliver
// Spells
3 Cloak of Mists
3 Awakening
4 Fireshrieker
4 Writ of Passage
4 Freed from the Real
2 Hermetic Study
4 Psionic Gift
PS: I need help with sideboards. I am really bad at them. |

| That would make it UBG. It is UB. Don't just say it sucks without reasons. Can some one help me on this deck? Also it does win about 40% of the time. I want it to win 80% of the time. Does it need to be black? I had a BG poision deck and it didn't beat my friends. |

| I would take a look a "Counter-Sliver" list and work from there. Start with the Poison Sliver and other stuff from "Counter-Sliver". I hope that this helps. You really can not sub out Force of Will but cheap counters will do the trick. The mana base is what is going to cost the most. |

when you win 80% of the time, we'll all use your list. that's an unreasonable number for any deck.
now, as for suggestions, pemmins aura always made me happy (guess why -.-), and i would suggest that over freed fromt he real |

Ok, here are some reasons then.
I think the problem with poison in single duels is that you'd normally win more quickly with straight damage. As it takes 20 damage or 10 poison to win the game, you can think of each poison counter as roughly 2 damage. Then we're at the situation where Marsh viper has an equivalent power of 4 for 4 mana, and Sabertooth Cobra has an equivalent power of 2 for 3 mana. Compare to Werebear (4 power for 2) or Mongoose (3 power for 1) to see why poison just doesn't compute.
Then we consider resilience. Your critters have toughness of 1-2 and no evasion/protection/shroud, so they die to everything from Pyroclasm to Lightning Bolt to Terror to Swords to Plowshares. Again, compare to the Boltproof Werebear or the Shrouded Mongoose. Consider how this deck would do in a burn matchup. Even the smallest burn (Seal of Fire, Magma Jet) would kill a creature. You have 12 critters. Burn has 40+ burn spells. Do the math. =)
So why did Poison win 2-headed giant at PT San Diego? Well while straight damage would have had to do 30 in 2HG, poison was still set at 10. In effect, a Virulent Sliver was a 3/1 for G, and two become 12/2 for GG. In that environment, Poison actually has a good chance. However, another key is that Slivers are still hugely synergistic even in the absence of Virulent, meaning that damage itself becomes the alternate win condition.
As others have said, just make an aggro sliver deck. GRW if you can afford the lands, or G with W or R otherwise. W gives you 4 more Muscle Slivers (Sinew), great 1-drops (Plated, Sidewinder), and STP. Red gives you stacking aggro-Bushido (Spined), Cycling for your Virulents (Homing), and burn. If you're really nuts, Winged and Shadow can push your slivers through for poison, but keep in mind you'll likely win with damage at least as often as with poison.
P.S.: For a funny casual Tim deck, consider Curiosity, Sigil of Sleep, and Freed from the Real in a deck full of Tims and countermagic. Only if you can afford both Morphlings and Horseshoe Crabs would I work the other way (critters that can untap + enchantments that turn them into Tims), but then I'd use Viridian Longbow to avoid some of the inevitable many-for-1 plays by the opponent.
Now how's that for a first post? =) |

| The deck would be decent for Casual but beyond that the fragility and slowness of the win condition just makes it horrible. T2 Poison Slivers are better and I don't see anyone suggesting them for Legacy. |

"This deck is great for casual and only costs $10."
Exactly. if you want it to hold a bit more in MWS, try something like this (I'll still keep casual in mind, but not the whole budget thingy)
Lands// 20
4 Tropical Island
4 Flooded Strand
4 Windswept Heath
4 Tundra
4 Savannah
Artifacts// 4
4 Mox Diamond/Chrome Mox (this is really your choice, mox diamond is better in some situations, but i think chrome is more reliable as in playability, though you have to say goodbye to a spell)
Spells// 16
4 Force of Will
4 Brainstorm
4 Daze
2 Swords To Plowshares
2 Krosan Grip
Creatures// 20
4 Virulent Sliver
4 Muscle Sliver
4 Homing Sliver
4 Sinew Sliver
2 Winged Sliver
2 Sidewinder Sliver
I know this is a bad list for poison, as I said it's just casual. you could take out the W (sidewinder, sinew and swords) for black (1 haunted crossroads, snake cult iniciation, etc)
by using the duals you'll have a more flexible deck. if you want it to be budget you can use the mirage fetchlands or maybe terramorphic expanse. you could also use some of the tempest duals (they're weaker than the recent ones). keep in mind you'll need countermagic for a sliver deck to work. I say this because ANYTHING that kills even one of your dudes will wreck your strategy. wrath/damnation, swords, pyroclasm (!!!)... you could use chill against red decks, I guess. and that other black card that makes white spells cost 3 more.
just some ideas, but the one you submitted is really bad :p for legacy, obv. |

It wins 80% against what? That's a very broad statement. As for the deck, I'd probably include both Propaganda and Back to Basics, as well as Birds of Paradise for accelleration. Instill Energy also looks like it would be an auto-include in a deck like this. I'd also consider running Brainstorm, Ancient Tomb and Mox Diamond for more obvious reasons. |

I have been playing with the poison idea for quite some time. It's come a long way from -> lure, venom, regenerate on one and others have poison. I've tried Green and Red, Green, Red and Black and Green and Black. Currently, I've settled it down to just green. Here's how it currently stands. (Only played in casual games and it wins enough to keep me happy.)
Creatures
4 Marsh Viper
4 Sabertooth Cobra
4 Virulent Sliver
4 ly Recluse
2 Lowland Basilisk
1 Wall of Brambles
1 Groundskeeper
3 Seeker of Skybreak
1 Seedborn Muse
Equipment
4 Viridian Longbow
2 Thornbite Staff
Artifacts
2 Puppetstrings
2 Thousand-Year Elixir
1 Rings of Brighthearth
1 Twanos's Wand
1 Meekstone
1 Hivestone (Likely to be removed . . .)
Other Spells
2 Worldly Tutor
1 Constant Mists
1 Awakening
The main purpose of the deck is to turn my poison creatures into 'Tims' (except the Virulent) and do direct poisoned damage. Then I hope to untap them and do it again . . .
From a quick look, I think that a starting hand of Viridian, 2 Seekers, 1 Marsh and Mana to suit can give 6 poison on turn 5 and 6 more on turn 6. That is likely the quickest I can win, barring some poison through attacking w/ a Virulent. |
