I recently downloaded a torrent that swarmed my computer with viruses. After working on fixing this problem nothing much has hurt the computer except for a virus file called "Sysguard" This file is one of those that opens a "Virus removal program" and tells you to register it.. giving you even more viruses. Also, it starts up when I start my computer and unless I manually delete it, it won't really let me go online. (Whenever I try to open a site it redirects me to some stupid thing like adult.com or coupon blah blah blah.com) and also sysguard is preventing me from using system restore.. or is that something else?

Basically I'm looking for someone that can give me USEFUL advice as to how to get rid of sysguard. I don't want to hear any "just use a virus removal program"

And don't tell me to "Just fucking google it" because unless you're a dumdum.. you should know to NEVER EVER search for "virus removal" or anything of that nature unless you enjoy getting your computer swarmed with trojans.

Norton Antivirus Software

AdAware

CCleaner

These are all reputable programs worth trying to use...you might be in a later stage of the virus if it is already preventing you from properly accessing files and programs, but try those

http://www.threatexpert.com/files/sysguard.exe.html

info on it...

Basically you need to find a list of important Registry keys and delete those, I used to know a site, but don't remember it as I now have a Mac. Try to google "registry keys associated with Sysguard.exe" and check the links carefully for something legit...

Good Luck

thanks for the help =] the info on it was what I was wanting to find but googling the name of a virus doesn't seem like a smart thing to do.

Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware will remove it, you can find it on the net for free. Otherwise reformat.

i say try AVG. if you can find the free trial, it's the best virus remover on the net. I have been using it forever and i have never been happier.

AVG is known for not being able to get rid of common viruses.. aka sysguard. AVG can not detect it even though I know where the virus is.

It's gotten to the point where I can't install files and even if I close/prevent the virus, it still shows its effects on my computer (redirects me to porn sites if I use a search engine, keeps telling me to "INSTALL THIS VIRUS REMOVER TO HEAL MY COMPUTER!"

I've asked for help on forums.. they're just going to help me find my drivers and tell me to nuke my comp probably.

I'm not sure why you are so scared to simply google it. Obviously you don't want to be stupid about it and just click the first search result, but you will find good information.

My suggestion would be first do a clean boot of the computer and see if sysguard's running. If not, run antivirus/antimalware/antispyware and deal with it that way. You shouldn't need to format the drive at all.

not reformatting isn't really an option now. it's disallowing me from opening some programs and is starting to crash my computer. I'm going to reformat once I get a response from professionals (PC Pitstop)

I recently had a problem like this but it had a different name, I used avg in safe mode and it got rid of over 1000 trojans and various other viruses. Then used cc cleaner to clear out the registry and fix any problems. Now use avg cc cleaner and spybot search and destroy. If you can't download any of them, might want to download them on a different comp, burn them to a disc then install. That's what i ended up doing. Comp runs great now haven't had anymore problems. Also if your not using Firefox already, i'd suggest switching to it, IE sucks balls and allow to much crap on your computer.

Hope this will help.

problem is being taken care of but thank you for all of your help.
Hawk, if you see this thanks a bunch for directing me to that site. Those guys there are experts and got me through it every step of the way.

idk how you can say IE "allows" things onto your computer. I'm a firefox user myself but still, IE doesn't allow more things onto your computer that firefox doesn't.
