Back with my first ever swiss draft I won going 5cc, Id turned a profit if this had been a 4-3-2-2.

Event #: 279668
Time: 4/4/2009 4:01:32 PM
Players:
Deronatas
--> ElementalMox
ciberfield
The_Bankroll
dailylemma
machiko
aaroncarlo
ojokomojo

------ ALA ------

Pack 1 pick 1:
Jhessian Lookout
Archdemon of Unx (FOIL)
Dreg Reaver
Cylian Elf
--> Resounding Thunder
Call to Heel
Obelisk of Bant
Branching Bolt
Incurable Ogre
Grixis Panorama
Infest
Qasali Ambusher
Thoughtcutter Agent
Violent Ultimatum
Swamp

The thunder is the less commital the ultimatum is the most powerfull spell but its a huge commitment to playing base jund which I do not want to make

Pack 1 pick 2:
Welkin Guide
Bone Splinters
Deft Duelist
Savage Hunger
Hissing Iguanar
Steelclad Serpent
Obelisk of Naya
Esper Panorama
Hindering Light
Blood Cultist
--> Skeletonize
Behemoth's Herald
Sacellum Godspeaker
Mountain

Felt better than the blood cultist though i think its a close pick

Pack 1 pick 3:
Dispeller's Capsule
Volcanic Submersion
Relic of Progenitus
Guardians of Akrasa (FOIL)
Soul's Might
Rip-Clan Crasher
Tortoise Formation
Lush Growth
--> Agony Warp
Bull Cerodon
Rockslide Elemental
Scourge Devil
Island

Its between the bull and the warp I always get the best results when I have blue and black in the base and although the bull is very good plenty of other cards you can get much later can do a similar job whilst there are no late versions of agony warp.

Pack 1 pick 4:
--> Courier's Capsule
Akrasan Squire
Bone Splinters
Jungle Weaver
Thorn-Thrash Viashino
Etherium Sculptor
Shore Snapper
Coma Veil
Soul's Grace
Bant Battlemage
Angel's Herald
Plains

Its this or the splinters and I have no creatures as of yet so i went with the splinters

Pack 1 pick 5:
Kathari Screecher
Sighted-Caste Sorcerer
Shore Snapper
Carrion Thrash
Cloudheath Drake
Filigree Sages (FOIL)
--> Esper Panorama
Obelisk of Naya
Gift of the Gargantuan
Sunseed Nurturer
Mountain

Fixing felt better than any of the other cards in the pack marginally over the drake

Pack 1 pick 6:
Dispeller's Capsule
Godtoucher
Cathartic Adept
Lightning Talons
--> Angelsong
Goblin Mountaineer
Shore Snapper
Demon's Herald
Swerve
Island

Pack 1 pick 7:
Thorn-Thrash Viashino
Resounding Scream
Naya Panorama
--> Cancel
Rakeclaw Gargantuan
Bloodthorn Taunter
Naturalize
Cunning Lethemancer
Plains

Pack 1 pick 8:
--> Viscera Dragger
Thorn-Thrash Viashino
Carrion Thrash
Jund Panorama
Glaze Fiend
Scourge Devil
Behemoth's Herald
Mountain

I think the dragger is a better card, Im not sure though devil is awsome in the right deck but my deck does not really feel like that sort of deck atm.

Pack 1 pick 9:
Jhessian Lookout
Dreg Reaver
Obelisk of Bant
Incurable Ogre
--> Grixis Panorama
Thoughtcutter Agent
Swamp

Pack 1 pick 10:
Savage Hunger
Steelclad Serpent
--> Esper Panorama
Behemoth's Herald
Sacellum Godspeaker
Mountain

Late fixing:)

Pack 1 pick 11:
--> Volcanic Submersion
Soul's Might
Tortoise Formation
Lush Growth
Island

Pack 1 pick 12:
--> Etherium Sculptor
Shore Snapper
Coma Veil
Plains

Pack 1 pick 13:
Shore Snapper
--> Carrion Thrash
Mountain

Pack 1 pick 14:
--> Demon's Herald
Island

Pack 1 pick 15:
--> Plains

------ ALA ------

Pack 2 pick 1:
Resounding Silence
Deathgreeter
Kederekt Creeper
Resounding Roar
Soul's Fire
Jhessian Lookout
Sighted-Caste Sorcerer
Tortoise Formation
Tidehollow Strix
Coma Veil
Rockslide Elemental
Jungle Shrine
Exuberant Firestoker
--> Sharding Sphinx
Plains

No brainer

Pack 2 pick 2:
Dreg Reaver
Sigil Blessing
Druid of the Anima
Ridge Rannet
Onyx Goblet
Spell Snip
Bant Panorama
Gustrider Exuberant
Soul's Might
Undead Leotau
--> Rhox War Monk
Mighty Emergence
Dragon's Herald
Island

Best card in pack and with what I have already should be easy to splash

Pack 2 pick 3:
Obelisk of Esper
Dispeller's Capsule
Godtoucher
Cathartic Adept
Kathari Screecher
Soul's Grace
Mosstodon
Waveskimmer Aven
--> Seaside Citadel
Filigree Sages
Corpse Connoisseur
Cradle of Vitality
Swamp

It took me along time to decide between this and the conniseur but in the end i went with the fixing if I had took the devil over the dragger in the previous pack I think i would have took the conniseur

Pack 2 pick 4:
Vectis Silencers
Welkin Guide
Bone Splinters
Deft Duelist
Naturalize
Obelisk of Grixis
Resounding Scream
Bloodthorn Taunter
Knight of the Skyward Eye
Cavern Thoctar
--> Fire-Field Ogre
Mountain

Another tough pack, the splinters and the knight of the skyward eye are both options, in the end i went with the unearthing first striker I think its pretty close between that and the splinters but I do not really have many dorks I want to sacrfice so I went with the beater.

Pack 2 pick 5:
Excommunicate
Banewasp Affliction
--> Jungle Weaver
Vectis Silencers
Goblin Deathraiders
Mosstodon
Seaside Citadel
Bant Battlemage
Puppet Conjurer
Vicious Shadows
Forest

I messed this pick, I think I should have took the seaside citadel, as green is only a splash I did not even end up playing the weaver:<

Pack 2 pick 6:
Deft Duelist
Jhessian Lookout
Onyx Goblet
Obelisk of Esper
Godtoucher
Gustrider Exuberant
Resounding Wave
--> Kiss of the Amesha
Gather Specimens
Plains

Hurrah thats late and good for me

Pack 2 pick 7:
Call to Heel
Yoked Plowbeast
Dregscape Zombie
Kederekt Creeper
Savage Hunger
Outrider of Jhess
--> Fatestitcher
Protomatter Powder
Mountain

Also very late and an easy pick

Pack 2 pick 8:
Dregscape Zombie
Kederekt Creeper
Savage Hunger
--> Courier's Capsule
Goblin Mountaineer
Coma Veil
Demon's Herald
Forest

More card draw for me, my deck is shaping up to be very powerfull

Pack 2 pick 9:
Resounding Silence
Deathgreeter
--> Kederekt Creeper
Jhessian Lookout
Tortoise Formation
Coma Veil
Plains

Pack 2 pick 10:
Dreg Reaver
Onyx Goblet
Soul's Might
--> Mighty Emergence
Dragon's Herald
Island

Pack 2 pick 11:
--> Dispeller's Capsule
Cathartic Adept
Soul's Grace
Filigree Sages
Swamp

Pack 2 pick 12:
--> Vectis Silencers
Resounding Scream
Bloodthorn Taunter
Mountain

Pack 2 pick 13:
--> Excommunicate
Vectis Silencers
Forest

Pack 2 pick 14:
--> Jhessian Lookout
Gather Specimens

I would normally rare draft the specimen here whihc should not really be here this late anyway but I may actaully want to board in the lookout vs some decks I have very little early defence

Pack 2 pick 15:
--> Protomatter Powder

------ CON ------

Pack 3 pick 1:
Gleam of Resistance
Wild Leotau
Frontline Sage
--> Fiery Fall
Pestilent Kathari
Valeron Outlander
Molten Frame
Infectious Horror
Rhox Bodyguard
Wandering Goblins
Nacatl Hunt-Pride
Scornful Ęther-Lich
Path to Exile
Kederekt Parasite
Mountain

Another tough decision between the fall and the exile, the fixing plus removal won out as I still wanted more fixing for my deck, if i knew what was about to happen i would have took the exile as it was going to be alot easier to play than i thought

Pack 3 pick 2:
Vedalken Outlander
Absorb Vis
Ember Weaver
Kranioceros
Mana Cylix
Lapse of Certainty
--> Rupture Spire
Suicidal Charge
Constricting Tendrils
Court Homunculus
Reliquary Tower
Jhessian Balmgiver
Dreadwing
Swamp

I think the spire is better than the vis in 5cc though im not 100%

Pack 3 pick 3:
Pestilent Kathari
Dark Temper
Parasitic Strix
Matca Rioters
Maniacal Rage
Nacatl Outlander
Nacatl Savage
Valiant Guard
Grixis Illusionist
Paragon of the Amesha
Jhessian Balmgiver
--> Shambling Remains
Mountain

Just felt that much more powerfull than anything else in the pack, even if it can not block the fornat has slowed down alot and this on turn 3 can be a beating

Pack 3 pick 4:
Jhessian Balmgiver (FOIL)
Beacon Behemoth
Zombie Outlander
Matca Rioters
Darklit Gargoyle
--> Fiery Fall
Tukatongue Thallid
Asha's Favor
Vectis Agents
Voices from the Void
Fleshformer
Plains

Best card in pack

Pack 3 pick 5:
Mana Cylix
Beacon Behemoth
--> Zombie Outlander
Matca Rioters
Darklit Gargoyle
Fiery Fall
Tukatongue Thallid
Rupture Spire
Vectis Agents
Hellkite Hatchling
Mountain

Wow so much fixing but I really do not need anymore, whilst the outlander is greatly early defence vs aggresive green decks that I need much more

Pack 3 pick 6:
--> Wretched Banquet
Sylvan Bounty
Traumatic Visions
Rhox Meditant
Wandering Goblins
Suicidal Charge
Corrupted Roots
Ignite Disorder
Scarland Thrinax
Forest

The thrinax is more powerfull but the bannquet is once again an awsome early spell vs aggresive decks, I already have the tools to beat most other sort of decks

Pack 3 pick 7:
Pestilent Kathari
Maniacal Rage
Nacatl Outlander
Nacatl Savage
Valiant Guard
View from Above
--> Filigree Fracture
Spore Burst
Plains

Pack 3 pick 8:
Sedraxis Alchemist
--> Beacon Behemoth
Maniacal Rage
Court Homunculus
Worldly Counsel
Reliquary Tower
Telemin Performance
Island

I should have rare drafted the telims performance

Pack 3 pick 9:
Wild Leotau
Frontline Sage
Molten Frame
Infectious Horror
--> Wandering Goblins
Kederekt Parasite
Mountain

Actually good in the domain deck as you can pump him up infinite times

Pack 3 pick 10:
--> Vedalken Outlander
Kranioceros
Suicidal Charge
Constricting Tendrils
Reliquary Tower
Swamp

Early defence

Pack 3 pick 11:
--> Pestilent Kathari
Maniacal Rage
Valiant Guard
Jhessian Balmgiver
Mountain

Pack 3 pick 12:
--> Matca Rioters
Darklit Gargoyle
Voices from the Void
Plains

Nice very good in my deck

Pack 3 pick 13:
Tukatongue Thallid
--> Vectis Agents
Mountain

Pack 3 pick 14:
--> Corrupted Roots
Forest

Pack 3 pick 15:
--> Plains

The deck

1 wretched bannquet
2 courriers capsule
1 vedalken outlander
1 agony warp
1 zombie outlander
1 resounding thunder
1 kederkezet kreeper
1 macta rioters
1 rhox war monk
1 shambling remains
1 wandering goblins
1 fate sticher
1 firefield ogre
1 viscera dragger
1 vectis agent
1 skeletonize
1 carrion thrash
1 sharding sphinx
1 kiss of the amesha
2 firey fall
1 rupture spire
1 seaside citadel
1 plains
3 island
3 swamp
5 mountain
1 Forest
2 Esper panorama
1 grixis panorama

sb 1 jungle weaver, 1 cancel, 1 jhessian look out, 1 filgree fracture

Im only commenting because you asked for them, since I am not the most experienced at drafting this format, but I think you made a lot of strange picks.

The one that is probably the worst for me was not taking Swerve over angelsong. Swerve is a removal spell most of the time, possibly better. You already had the color coordination.

*shrugs* there are picks you make that I disagree with on a personal level, but your own personal logic seems fine, and it's clear you know what you are doing. I'm not sure what more I can contribute any more to helping you improve, that's why I've stopped commenting Smile

You can, I am sure it was yourself who said one of the greatest things you can learn from this is how other people think and there logic behind decisions, something like that better worded:<

This is just how I would've done the draft. Not trying to bash you or anything Smile.

I'd like to see your responses to some of my picks here as well, I've been drafting shards shards conflux, very succesfully since it came out, mainly 5 color and esper.

P1P6 - Swerve over Angelsong

P2P4 - Cavern Thoctor over Fire-Field Ogre
He's Just a bigger body, Fire-field seems like a decent pick, but requires 3 colors and Cavern is just good. Not saying it's right, just would've been my pick here.

P2P5 - You noticed the mispick, Here I'd say it was between seaside and Puppet conjurer, he's great at stalling aggro decks once you get him active.

P2P9 - Resounding Silence is better then creeper in my experience, Creepers a great card but he's great on turn 3 or 4 in grixis, in your deck it can potentially be later.

P2P10 - Here I would take Dreg Reaver or Onyx Goblet, both are decent. The goblet is heavily underated in some aggro drafts, and dreg reaver if needed could make your deck as a body, while emergence never will.

P3P3 - I love shambling remains, but I really think paragon is a better pick in 5 color. Even Macta Rioters, if you had a more solid basic land base. He's usually a 5/5 and at least a 4/4 in 5C.

P3P5 - Zombie outlander is weak here, I'd take Macta Rioters or Fieryfall.

P3P6 - With your previous picks, I think traumatic Visions is right here. But if you picked bigger creatures then Banquet is right.

P3P7 - Spore Burst and Kathari seem better then the filigree, I love some artifact destruction though. Especially ones that cantrip.

P3P8 - Personally I would be taking the Telemin or Worldly Council, Behemoth doesn't seem wrong though, but it is kind of like your Jungeweaver pick earlier on, its Double green. The Jungle weaver would make the deck over this guy anyways. So take something that actually helps the deck.

P3P9 - The way you did the draft this pick seems resonable, the way I would've done it, I would've took the oppurtunity to hate the leotau, he's just too good.

P3P10 - Here I would take the Suicidal Charge (Underated as hell), or the Kraniocerios, just as a body.

On swerve I've never played it ever and if there is a late card that cycles I noramlly just take that.

I like the fire field ogre over throctar as its a more aggresivly based creatures I should not have much trouble consistantly casting it on turn 4, whilst the throctar will probably be more problamatic.

The jungle weaver was a mispick some how i had it in my mind at the time i was alot more green that i actually was.

I dislike resounding silence as good players are able to play around it and just develope there board putting you further behind alot of the time.

The goblet was more of hate I could not see myself playing dreg reaver

The remains was in my base colours and alot of the time I am going to have better things to do with my mana when i have the mana to use amesha.

The zombie outlander was entirely to do with curve i really need a 2 drop, its not the best card but is what the deck most needed.

the bannequet was the pick as its an early spell that keep me in the game so i can win, as the only thing i can really see me losing to with the deck with what i have already is very aggresive fast draws so i am now looking for cards to change that.

The figree was because i knew i was not going to play the other cards and the filgree was a great answer to my bomb.

Should have been the telmin

I wanted to try out the goblin he was very good
