hey all, this is the most aggressive deck I've made for block thus far. In a fairly slow format, it's a very fast list. The idea is keeping constant threats on the board (25 creatures, 4 planeswalkers) and doing FAST damage.
It wins most matchups so far. I'd love to playtest if anyone cares to.
NOTE: I edited the card mix 4/1/09. Steward truly doesn't belong. To the person who asked why it's called "Zoo," it's because it's full of beasts. Talons = bad for reasons already mentioned.
I went with fewer planeswalkers because, quite frankly, that's what works with the mana mix. too many walkers doesn't fit with the deck theme.
updated mix:
// Lands
5 [CHK] Mountain (2)
6 [U] Forest (1)
3 [ALA] Naya Panorama
4 [ARE] Plains (7)
2 [CNF] Ancient Ziggurat
4 [ALA] Jungle Shrine
// Creatures
4 [CNF] Hellspark Elemental
2 [ALA] Sarkhan Vol
3 [CNF] Cliffrunner Behemoth
4 [ALA] Wild Nacatl
2 [ALA] Ranger of Eos
4 [ALA] Woolly Thoctar
4 [ALA] Rip-Clan Crasher
2 [CNF] Noble Hierarch
1 [ALA] Ajani Vengeant
2 [ALA] Battlegrace Angel
1 [ALA] Elspeth, Knight-Errant
// Spells
4 [CNF] Path to Exile
2 [CNF] Banefire
1 [ALA] Naya Charm
// Sideboard
SB: 2 [CNF] Martial Coup
SB: 3 [ALA] Oblivion Ring
SB: 2 [ALA] Relic of Progenitus
SB: 4 [CNF] Celestial Purge
SB: 4 [CNF] Volcanic Fallout
To the person who said block has ways of dealing with aggro decks: not a turn 2 thoctar, turn 3 cliffrunner behemoth for 10. They probably aren't going to draw more than 2 paths to exile; martial coup costs 7 mana but if you let them get to 7 and don't topdeck a banefire, games over anyway. o-ring is a nuisance at worst. haste is the key here, remember.
This deck runs 25 creatures. that's a lot of threats.

| block has a lot of fast and good ways to stop aggro decks. You should play more good cards (planeswalkers) instead of 'fast' ones (hellspark/soul's fire) |

| I think that you should try to run 4 lightning talons. They are really good with nacatls. |

thats the most illogical statement ever. Why would you purposely play a card thats going to 2 for 1 yourself.
"I play lightning talons on my nacatl"
"Agony warp?"
"O-ring?"
"Good Game Sir"
There are so many ways to remove a nacatl in block, why on earth would you suggest playing an enchantment thats not going to win you the game, but make you get 2 for 1d.
To the OP - I would play more Planeswalkers and steward of valeron so you can play them on turn 3. You should probally be playing 4x banefire Between the maindeck and sideboard, as its a complete house vs all the control decks. |
