Using phases is usually pointless and time wasting. I know the phases. |
Ummm...
| Craze wrote: | | 1) it teaches newer players the actual phases, which helps them learn the combat steps as well as priority. |
You may know them, but not everyone does. Also you don't need to use every single phase yourself, but your oppenent can click on the phases during your turn too, like the precombat phase (most people just go straight from the precombat main phase to the declare attackers phase).
Overall, using phases(at least the main 4: precombat main, declare attackers, postcombat main, and end turn) help prevent arguments as well as helps newer players. And if you get used to using them, it doesn't slow things down AT ALL.
| TugaChampion wrote: | | MWS servers aren't that good but it sure is better than flipping. However you're exagerating. When I used appr, sometimes using hamachi I only had to flip very few times. Like 1% of the matchs probably. |
Hamachi doesn't work for everyone. I'm the one that found the program and introduced it to the league, as I was a huge apprentice user myself at the time.
In a poll a long while back ago, we found that Hamachi actually doesn't work for 1 out of 5 walled players. So yes, it does stop the flips, but not totally. And even the chance of flips is unacceptable.
Also there are over 20 mws servers. Only 3-4 of them are known for crashing a lot. You can always try another.

Nor does it in Apprentice. It goes to "Seize the Soul." Try typing: "thoughtse" Works for both programs.
Really stupid argument there by the way. |

I didn't mean to imply that appr could do that. My point was MWS filter sucks (appr filter sucks too but that wasn't the point). |

I'm confused. I thought the thread was about whether apprentice should be improved upon, then turned into a thread about apprentice vs. MWS. How, in either of those contexts, does it make sense to mention the MWS search filter without doing so in regards to apprentice? |

Do you realize how this article is a completely personal point of view? I wasted more time reading this than i "wasted" all these years prefering MWS over apprentice.
Zwi is trying to justify not being able to learn how to swiftly use a superior programm by saying "MWS creators don't respect me".
Why bother with an inferior programm? All the problems Zwi described are solved just by getting familiar with MWS (gameplay and deckbuilding) so, instead of whining, do so![/quote]
You're so wrong that I have a hard time believing you even considered the opposing viewpoint before dismissing it.
I'll give the creators of Workstation the props they deserve; the program doesn't have glitches, it does not suffer from the problems that Apprentice does, and it can have pictures. Those things are all fine and good. They give the progam a clear and obvious advantage for online tournaments.
But to think that MWS is strictly superior to Apprentice, or even close, is just inane. Apprentice is easier to use. That is a fact. It is not a laziness or unwillingness to become familiar. Magic Workstation could not possibly be as fast as Apprentice, because Apprentice is a completely blank sheet. Apprentice hands you the tabletop and says "do whatever the fuck you want". It's like, you know, playing Magic.
I'm not saying that Apprentice is a better program than MWS. It just has very clear advantages over MWS in some areas, as MWS does over Apprentice. Why is that so hard to admit?
@ Avata - I posted what I did because I don't believe that Apprentice needs to be improved. |

It's hard to admit, because it's solely a matter of opinion. I was a huge Apprentice player, mostly because it's apparent simplicity, but after learning and getting the hang of MWS, I can honestly say that MWS isn't any harder to use. Maybe harder to learn, but thats not an issue.
MWS beats Apprentice for online tournament use AND casual use, Because even if you are too lazy to adapt to it, the sheer number of flaws in Apprentice still make it worse.
But again, it's all opinion. A majorities opinion, true, but opinion no less. |

It isn't a matter of opinion. Apprentice is objectively better than Magic Workstation in many ways.
To even argue about the fact that Apprentice is faster just makes you look foolish. |

It's faster for someone who doesn't take the time to learn workstation. And I'm sorry, but to say Apprentice is at all better then mws is foolish.
Or at least thats my opinion anyway. |
