I chose charmander, because I like a challenge.

I don't think you need a grass pokemon for the Elite Four, and you can get Moltres instead of Charizard. That's my logic for picking Squirtle.

**** logic. I just like big dragons. I'm a Timmy that way.

But ya know, I like Metroids too. Too bad we couldn't bring them to Pokémon.

The three starter pokemon were kinda like setting the game's difficulty level.

Bulbasaur - Easy - First 2 gym leaders are pretty easy when using plant pokemon.

Squirtle - Medium - The first gym leader is easy when using water pokemon.

Charmander - Hard - The first 2 gym leaders are hard when using fire pokemon.

Once you get past Vermillion City, it shouldn't matter anymore cause you've had time to get pokemon of the right type against the rest.

However and heres how I look at it: You can get a good plant pokemon in Misty's town(forget name). You can get a good fire pokemon on the path RIGHT before Celadon City. However you can't get a good Water pokemon until you get the Good Rod, which you can't get until AFTER Celadon City. So the best choice to get is Squirtle.

Best pokemon ever: Snorlax
