Why would anyone be opposed to this? I don't think anyone even needs notices for time reminders, but even if they did I don't see why they can't be made in another channel like #ml-timers. And the fact that there's generally multiple mini's running simultaneously makes it so that most of the time you would ignore them anyway. There's so many alternatives that would make this channel a lot less obnoxious and functional, like a separate channel, or private notices to people that are actually in the mini's (/notice username, at least in the 8 max's) that I just don't see why the channel has to be kept in its headache-inducing state.

I don't mean to sound ungrateful to the judges, but seriously? If everything's a notice, then nothing's a notice. It would be like trying to drive an ambulance through traffic when everyone's using a siren.

I also personally volunteer to rewrite the judge script if that's the problem.

To be honest, I think your the only one who finds this annoying. I mean my mIRC is set so notices only show up in the channel they are posted in, so it doesn't spam my other channels. And who cares what #magic-league looks like. The channel is supposed to serve 3 purposes. A place to notice upcoming tournies, a place to hold current tournies(time notices and pairings) and a place to find single matches. All other purposes are extra and irrelevant. To create an alternate channel for time notices or personally pm people would be both unnecessarily and a tad non-user friendly.

It's not what the channel looks like that was my point in the screenshot. My point is why would anyone in a game check the channel on a notice if there's 3+ mini's running concurrently and more often than not the timer notices are irrelevant to them?

I find this very annoying as well. My MIRC gives a little sound when one of those announcements are made. ATM I ignore them because there are so many. If they were only for new minis, I would check the site if i was doing something else. I agree entirely with trhe OP here, this should be changed. Maybe keep the final TIME IS CALLED one as well, because that is also very important.

What about game loss/match loss timers?

Presumably if you were waiting for your opponent to show up you would know if the game/match losses were posted in the channel, since you wouldn't even be playing. Those are probably the most expendable notices.

By the way Craze, private notices to people don't show up as messages that you have to close. They show up as notices in the channel that appear exactly the same as the channel-wide notices. So there's no added inconvenience, people in the mini see the notices and people that aren't don't. The only problem is that if you had a large tournament, the script could cause you to flood off the server, but a) that can be worked around in scripting with a wait command that would only off-set the accuracy of the timers by a couple of seconds at most and b) 8-max mini's wouldn't be affected at all, and removing notices from those alone would drastically cut down on channel spam.

As I said before the channel 1/3 of the channel's actual point is those timers, so technically they're not spam.

Coolcreep, as for your beep problem:
Tools - Options - Sounds - uncheck the enable sounds box.
OR if you like sounds just use the little scroll box on that screen, find notices, then push the button that says beep and change it to no sound. (it might bring a box up telling you to find an alternate sound file, just push "cancel" and it then will say no sound).

I could list a dozen reasons why those timer banners are important, such as newer players not knowing that after a certain while if your opponent hasn't shown up that its an auto win. Or the sheer inconvenience of checking the time left as compared to just looking at it on a colorful banner. Or that to do this with a larger trial/master, you're absolutely right that it would in fact flood you off the server but besides that to do individual notices would be a awful lag to anyone with even remotely bad internet(such as myself).
I could tell you this, and you could counter each of those with a solution I haven't thought of(or possibly did think of but dismissed for its own problems) and this thread could go on for like 20 pages.

But that would be kind of silly, now wouldn't it?
Instead I'll just point out that your the first person to ever complain about it. Since most people know that 8 maxes fill up far too fast for those new mini channel banners to be of much use(leaving most people just relying on finding them with the refresh button on their browser). And since your the first person to complain it'd imply that you are as Ggerg said in the far minority. And to fix this problem would cause a bunch of other smaller problems and be far too big of a waste of time to meet the complaints of so little.

New player or not they would have to message the TC to report. Presumably they would also be able to message the TC to ask what happens if they don't have an opponent, since they haven't been playing for 10 minutes and such.

Doesn't explain why said colorful banner needs an audio notification.

Then apply it to mini's only. Individual notices is actually the less ideal alternative, I don't see why time notifications can't just be posted in the channel, blazing colors and all, without being /notice'd.

Actually not. We were having this discussion back in e-league (who ran a script that's basically a carbon copy of the one still being used today) and the consensus among a lot of the people I mentioned it to was largely in agreement. But afaik nothing was done and since I quit Magic I guessed no one cared enough to bring it up again.

And I also don't see how a suggestion can be bad if it's never been brought up before. In fact that's actually quite self-defeating, since any suggestion, or idea, or anything that's ever been proposed ever would have to been brought up originally at some point.

At the very least in this thread I'm not. And your 'solution' you posted doesn't work because it's not selective. It's not like it's hard to figure how to disable notice sounds. My point was that they would be cool, if they were actually notifying people of something.

I hate all those coloured bannered reminders. Get rid of all of them no matter why they're there.
