Sootwalkers
Blistering Dieflyn
Presence of Gond
Shield of the Oversoul
Kinscaer Harpoonist
Loch Korrigan
Scrapbasket

Here i think the corrupt is so much stronger than anything else.

Last Breath
Wanderbrine Rootcutters
Sootwalkers
Put Away
Manaforge Cinder
Manamorphose

Shield of the Oversoul
Merrow Wavebreakers

--> Somnomancer
Inescapable Brute
Safewright Quest
Splitting Headache

Yes i should have took the faerie swarm but the steel tipped me in the favour of the mancer, plus my rather optomistic hope with some of the late blue i saw last draft that the swarm might table it did not.

Rune-Cervin Rider
Juvenile Gloomwidow

2 merrow wavebreakers
13 Island
4 Mountain

sb cards of note
oonas grace
cerulan wisp
elsewhere flask

Round 1 paired vs gw he gets a shiled of oversoul on a ravens run dragoon, i have curse for it plus draem thief to draw a card, however next go he has elder plus mana to blow up chains, i have blast for dragoon to make it a 2/2 the dragoon and draem theif start to race with him a turn or so a head but i am not worried as i have watchwing plus hatchestbully in hand, I delploy bully first then scarecrow and proceed to win with bully to the face. Game 2 he mulls then never gets past 2 land whilst i curve out.

Round 2 paired vs rg I curve out aggresivly but get stuck on three lands for ages, so long i am forced to put steel on plumeveil whilst i beat in air, he attacks in then firespriuts wipping the board, but i draw a land and off load gas whilst he is out of fire power. Game 2 he gets an aggresive start, whilst mine is slow, I am forced into double aethertowing the rw hatchling plus tatermunge duo when he plays embergale and i am at 6 life, from there i top deck plumveil plus snakeform and wreak him, proceed to draw faerie swarm plus wavebeakers, he makes a supicious looking attack with the 1/3 dueagr pumper, i fail to read him for having top decked firespout like i can complain and block the plumeveil against the duegar instead of the wavebreakers, he sprouts and wipes board, now we are both in top deck mode, he draws mosrseal horder and then suits it up with runes but i haev snakeform plus mimic to trade, i draw a puresight merrow and a hatchet bully he has the rg liege as well as noggle bandit, at this point i am at two for some reason he attacks in with liege despite having played the bandit i block with merrow and use bullies ability with damage on stack dropping to 1. next go bullie kills bandit takes control of the game and i win.

Round 3 opponent no show

the liege is so much better than plumeveil

plumeveil is a good, surprise blocker

the liege is hard to kill, and makes every one of you men better.

both cards force you into immediate colors, but i think you want to be in r/b, bot only because the liege is better, but because mono-red is so good is sh/sh/eve

you could of had firespout pack 2 too, if you went red

your first pick was the biggest mistake

While I do agree that liege is the pick over plumeveil, arguing about the firespout is stupid. It could just have easily been a mirrorweave or some other great U or W card. He had no way of knowing that he would open firespout.

I just can't understand how in the world you pick steel over firespout, It's itself splash-worthy and better than any card in your deck.

Anyway, getting 6th pick snakeforms and like 7th curse of chains only happens in 4322. Try some 8-4's... Cya on modo.

Thanks for the feedback, I think the plumeveil liege pick is close and most people will decide which to take on colour preference. I like going mono blue, white and red but its very rare black is my main colour so for this reason the veil added to the fact i find it a little more powerful is the pick for me.

Looking at the firesprout pick now, your right it works really well in blue red with just the red option, at the time my reasoning was i did not want to commit to a second colour until eventide, though clearly firesprout is so powefull that i should have just took it.

I always get owned when i join 8-4s, strange thing about this draft was although i saw loads of really late pick removal spells there was no one below 1600 in it, two people above 1800 and quite a few 1700's so for a 4-3-2-2 on paper at least it was really strong atleast.

You put too much emphasis on rating. A high rating =/= a good player. I bet playing on 8-4s exclusively would make your rating go down, but does that mean you got worse? Of course not, if anything you got better through the experience. There is certainly some correlation between rating and skill, but you should not judge a person's skill before you play against them at least 5 times, even if they do have a fancy number next to their name.

I do not but when rating is the only real indicator you have, you have to use it. Even if someone plays exclusively 4-3-2-2 like i almost do unless there happens to be an 8-4 with 6-7 people in the que when im looking to draft, if they have a rating of really 1700 or above you can assume that they are a competant drafter and will not make too many mistakes, 1800 even playing just 4-3-2-2 is hard to achieve as you often get little for wins and loads for deducted for a loss and everyone gets screwed or flooded every once in a while, so then you can assume they are a skilled drafter and do not make too many play mistakes.

However I agree there are always exceptions to the rules, I have played some very weak highly rated players, these guys almost always seem to be mono red i think its just people who force it every time and win on its strength whilst not playing very well and no matter the format they are always going to force a deck like that, it just so happens that in this format the rewards for it can be very high.

Equally in Lorwyn draft i lost to a 1300 in the finals of a 4-3-2-2 and he played better than me and had a great deck with maw and profane command. Though i find most of the time rating is an accurate indicator of where someone is at, though undoubtly yes its alot harder to maintain a high rating playing 8-4 all the time than 4-3-2-2 and you have to take this into account when drafting 8-4 if you normally draft 4-3-2-2 as you can not assume everyone else is in the same boat.

rating is usually an indication of someone being on a hot streak. they may be good sometimes but lose in top8 or in preassure matches. people with consistently high ratings are good to play agaisnt.

I was 1850 limited when I only played 4322's cuz they are always very easy and i dont think it has changed. You make me right with your monored example nonetheless. Play some 8-4's if you want real practice...but the format is irrelevant unless ure playin jap nats, which I bet u arent.
