Hey please critique my 8-4 draft, I won and got 8 packs XD

Event #: 59387
Time: 8/21/2008 1:09:00 AM
Players:
Pattern
Yogi
tmckenna
--> ElementalMox
Spoony1
Vanderlay1977
Kind Ape
onelooninatree

------ SHM ------

Pack 1 pick 1:
Island (FOIL)
Mudbrawler Raiders
Torture
Torpor Dust
Watchwing Scarecrow
Barrenton Cragtreads
Rustrazor Butcher
Aphotic Wisps
Kithkin Shielddare
Fate Transfer
Poison the Well
Revelsong Horn
Pale Wayfarer
--> Illuminated Folio
Spiteful Visions

What a shit pack, none of the cards in the pack deserve the right to be called best card in pack but took folio to stay open.

Pack 1 pick 2:
Scuzzback Marauders
Faerie Macabre
Traitor's Roar
--> Curse of Chains
Somnomancer
Rattleblaze Scarecrow
Gleeful Sabotage
Tattermunge Duo (FOIL)
Apothecary Initiate
Whimwader
Toil to Renown
Beseech the Queen
Horde of Boggarts.
Puca's Mischief

I’ve heard good things about puca’s mischief but curse of chains just seems more reliable and is also a more open pick so I took it.

Pack 1 pick 3:
--> Thistledown Duo
Fists of the Demigod
Helm of the Ghastlord
Gravelgill Duo
Rune-Cervin Rider
Thornwatch Scarecrow
Rustrazor Butcher
Safewright Quest
Aphotic Wisps
Woeleecher
Madblind Mountain
Mercy Killing
Wheel of Sun and Moon

Thistledown once again keeps me open, easy pick.

Pack 1 pick 4:
Disturbing Plot
Parapet Watchers
Watchwing Scarecrow
--> Ballynock Cohort
Barkshell Blessing
Blazethorn Scarecrow
Emberstrike Duo
Gleeful Sabotage
Kithkin Shielddare
Slinking Giant
Guttural Response
Deep-Slumber Titan

Cohort this late is a good sign white is open, easy pick again.

Pack 1 pick 5:
Faerie Macabre
Helm of the Ghastlord
Juvenile Gloomwidow
Prismwake Merrow
Inescapable Brute
Safewright Quest
Splitting Headache
Barrenton Medic
Umbral Mantle
--> Mistmeadow Skulk
Cemetery Puca
White is officially open.

Pack 1 pick 6:
Gravelgill Axeshark
--> Steel of the Godhead
Rattleblaze Scarecrow
Memory Sluice
Poison the Well
Foxfire Oak
Mountain (FOIL)
Cinderbones
Advice from the Fae
Sapseep Forest

Im not a fan of taking them pack 1 but this is a sign that uw aggro is def open and as it’s a really good archtype, Im now consciously looking to draft it.

Pack 1 pick 7:
Juvenile Gloomwidow
Sickle Ripper
Torpor Dust
Blight Sickle
--> Somnomancer
Splitting Headache
Woeleecher
Forest (FOIL)
Crimson Wisps

Easy.

Pack 1 pick 8:
--> Gravelgill Axeshark
Cinderbones
Mine Excavation
Blazethorn Scarecrow
Spell Syphon
Leechridden Swamp
Raking Canopy
Worldpurge

I almost rare drafted but there’s a slim chance I might play the axe shark so I took it.

Pack 1 pick 9:
Island (FOIL)
Rustrazor Butcher
Aphotic Wisps
Kithkin Shielddare
Poison the Well
Revelsong Horn
Pale Wayfarer
Not the best in UW beat down but I like him more than most people.

Pack 1 pick 10:
Traitor's Roar
Rattleblaze Scarecrow
Apothecary Initiate
Whimwader
Toil to Renown
Horde of Boggarts

Hate drafting the growing in popularity mono red deck.

Pack 1 pick 11:
--> Fists of the Demigod
Thornwatch Scarecrow
Safewright Quest
Woeleecher
Madblind Mountain

I guess you can make a case for the safe right quest but I felt like fucking over the red drafter some more.

Pack 1 pick 12:
Disturbing Plot
Emberstrike Duo
--> Kithkin Shielddare
Guttural Response

Hopefully will not have to play this.

Pack 1 pick 13:
--> Helm of the Ghastlord
Inescapable Brute
Safewright Quest

Still a small chance I could play, just seems stronger than the other cards so hate draft again.

Pack 1 pick 14:
--> Memory Sluice
Mountain (FOIL)

No one is milling me.

Pack 1 pick 15:
Blight Sickle

Not bad for last pick.

------ SHM ------

Pack 2 pick 1:
Kinscaer Harpoonist
Cultbrand Cinder
Mudbrawler Cohort
Farhaven Elf
Last Breath
Wanderbrine Rootcutters
Sinking Feeling
Inquisitor's Snare
Gloomwidow's Feast
Manaforge Cinder
Scuzzback Scrapper
Plumeveil
Glamer Spinners
Deepchannel Mentor
Swans of Bryn Argoll

I guess this makes up for the first pack, Swans is the strongest card, maybe if agro UW did not seem so open perhaps Id consider taking plumeveil still feels wrong to me though.

Pack 2 pick 2:
Last Breath
--> Briarberry Cohort
Sootwalkers
Blistering Dieflyn
Presence of Gond
Shield of the Oversoul
Scrapbasket
Strip Bare
Drowner Initiate
Scarscale Ritual
Intimidator Initiate
Jaws of Stone
Grief Tyrant
Corrosive Mentor

I really like last breath but I think cohort is better, I normally play 4-3-2-2 where they wheel really late all the time, sadly this does not seem to happen in 8-4:<Pack> Armored Ascension

Pack 2 pick 3:
Ghastly Discovery
Wildslayer Elves
Gloomlance
Puncture Bolt
Morselhoarder
Chainbreaker
Put Away
Elvish Hexhunter
Smolder Initiate
--> Armored Ascension
Puresight Merrow
Dream Salvage
Dusk Urchins

Now I got all the creature enchantments I want.

Pack 2 pick 4:
Gloomlance
Boggart Arsonists
--> Raven's Run Dragoon
Runes of the Deus
Medicine Runner
Kinscaer Harpoonist
Hungry Spriggan
Loch Korrigan
Scrapbasket
Scuzzback Scrapper
Rite of Consumption
Fossil Find

I considered the spriggan, think I would have took it if I had not hate drafted over the quests

Pack 2 pick 5:
Cultbrand Cinder
Blistering Dieflyn
Morselhoarder
Wingrattle Scarecrow
Shield of the Oversoul
Smolder Initiate
Gloomwidow's Feast
Sinking Feeling
Goldenglow Moth
Smash to Smithereens
Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers

Good times obvious pic

Pack 2 pick 6:
Scar
Presence of Gond
Briarberry Cohort
Safehold Sentry
Turn to Mist
Scarscale Ritual
Cerulean Wisps
Disturbing Plot (FOIL)
--> Mistmeadow Witch
Inkfathom Witch

So many good cards so late, must be in the right colours.

Pack 2 pick 7:
Ghastly Discovery
Wildslayer Elves
Cinderhaze Wretch
Niveous Wisps
Loamdragger Giant
Drowner Initiate
Bloodshed Fever
--> Puresight Merrow
Merrow Grimeblotter

More fuel for the god aura.

Pack 2 pick 8:
Safehold Duo
Wingrattle Scarecrow
Old Ghastbark
--> Elvish Hexhunter
Goldenglow Moth
Loch Korrigan
Ember Gale
Drove of Elves

This may seem like an odd pick but I was unhappy with the amount of ways I had to deal with opposing god auras.

Pack 2 pick 9:
Wanderbrine Rootcutters
Sinking Feeling
--> Inquisitor's Snare
Gloomwidow's Feast
Manaforge Cinder
Scuzzback Scrapper
Deepchannel Mentor

Also late.

Pack 2 pick 10:
Sootwalkers
Blistering Dieflyn
--> Shield of the Oversoul
Scrapbasket
Strip Bare
Scarscale Ritual
Doubt I will play it apparently good players don’t like god auras anymore.

Pack 2 pick 11:
--> Gloomlance
Chainbreaker
Put Away
Smolder Initiate
Dream Salvage

This is wrong no two ways about it.

Pack 2 pick 12:
Loch Korrigan
--> Scrapbasket
Scuzzback Scrapper
Rite of Consumption

If some goes very wrong I could play him, he works well with my god auras

Pack 2 pick 13:
Blistering Dieflyn
--> Smolder Initiate
Goldenglow Moth

Hating mono black

Pack 2 pick 14:
Presence of Gond
Cerulean Wisps

A playable wisp atlast!

Pack 2 pick 15:
--> Bloodshed Fever

------ EVE ------

Pack 3 pick 1:
Fire at Will
Inside Out
Aerie Ouphes
Monstrify
--> Ballynock Trapper
Talara's Battalion
Stream Hopper
Indigo Faerie
Loyal Gyrfalcon
Merrow Bonegnawer
Clout of the Dominus
Beckon Apparition
Gift of the Deity
Dream Thief
Canker Abomination

Is the trapper better than fire at will, I think so in a beat down white deck.

Pack 3 pick 2:
Shell Skulkin
Smoldering Butcher
Grazing Kelpie
Fable of Wolf and Owl
Soul Snuffers
Noggle Bandit
Shorecrasher Mimic
Nightsky Mimic

Wilderness Hypnotist

Easy pick.

Slippery Bogle
Cenn's Enlistment
Woodlurker Mimic
Clout of the Dominus
Kithkin Spellduster
Talara's Bane
Impelled Giant
Snakeform
Battlegate Mimic
Flame Jab

Easy pick, beginning to regret the hexhunter decision, removal seems rife in Eventide

Pack 3 pick 4:
Creakwood Ghoul
Jawbone Skulkin
Odious Trow
Hoof Skulkin
Tilling Treefolk
Double Cleave
--> Endless Horizons
Harvest Gwyllion
Favor of the Overbeing
Oona's Grace
Duskdale Wurm
Riverfall Mimic

This card is a bomb very good, in fact it feels build a deck around me good after playing it.

Pack 3 pick 5:
Drain the Well
Noggle Ransacker
Merrow Levitator
Kithkin Zealot
Edge of the Divinity
Talara's Bane
Endure
--> Desecrator Hag
Fang Skulkin
Cinder Pyromancer
Trapjaw Kelpie

I seem fine for playables anhd nothing seems that good here so hatedraft.

Pack 3 pick 6:
Antler Skulkin
Smoldering Butcher
Soot Imp
Rendclaw Trow
Harvest Gwyllion
--> Oona's Grace
Gift of the Deity
Dream Thief
Kithkin Spellduster
Beckon Apparition

Seems good with endless horizions.

Pack 3 pick 7:
Jawbone Skulkin
Monstrify
--> Nightsky Mimic
Cinder Pyromancer
Syphon Life
Heartlash Cinder
Nettle Sentinel
Kithkin Zealot
Riverfall Mimic

It beats.

Pack 3 pick 8:
Hoof Skulkin
Nip Gwyllion
Tilling Treefolk
Unnerving Assault
Edge of the Divinity
Trapjaw Kelpie
--> Raven's Crime
Noggle Bridgebreaker

Im sure if I pick up enough of these late I can make a tic

Pack 3 pick 9:
Monstrify
Indigo Faerie
--> Loyal Gyrfalcon
Merrow Bonegnawer
Beckon Apparition
Gift of the Deity
Dream Thief

Effectively a 3/3 flyer for 4 in my deck good.

Pack 3 pick 10:
Shell Skulkin
Smoldering Butcher
Grazing Kelpie
--> Nightsky Mimic
Heartlash Cinder
Wilderness Hypnotist

It beats.

Pack 3 pick 11:
Banishing Knack
--> Cenn's Enlistment
Clout of the Dominus
Kithkin Spellduster
Talara's Bane

Also good with endless horizons.

Pack 3 pick 12:
--> Creakwood Ghoul
Jawbone Skulkin
Tilling Treefolk
Duskdale Wurm

I think this is the best card to hate draft but this is only my second time playing set so could be wrong.

Pack 3 pick 13:
Drain the Well
--> Edge of the Divinity
Endure

Best card, could play.

Pack 3 pick 14:
Antler Skulkin
Soot Imp

After reading this card it seems like it should’nt be this late to me.

Pack 3 pick 15:
 Jawbone Skulkin

Whoopie!

The Deck

1 Elvish Hexhunter
1 Inqusitors Snare
1 Curse of Chains
1 Mistmeadow Skulk

Easy draft for you... no hard decisions to make and your opponents were real friends fueling you all the way with good white cards.
Just one thing, in pack 3 pick 5, wasn´t the pyromancer a best pick for hatedraft than desecrator hag?
Pyromancer is just nuts.

I think you might have got stuck on w/u a little too much early when a lot of your hybrid cards could go in either color. However, you were rewarded for this when you got ~6th pick mistmeadow witch @@.

The draft was really high quality, so people are not going to be making many bad picks so 4th cohort told me W was def open and the 5th skulk confirmed it for me, my instincts were right, so i dont think that was a mistake plus they were both the best card in the pack anyway on colour not like I had the option of more open cards.

Shagrath you could be right about pyromancer I have not played enough eventide to really know and yes it was an easy draft.

I'd have to disagree with the first pick folio. The card almost never sees play, and while you want to remain open you should never base your draft around your first pick (only rare occasion is when you open a bomb).

I would have gone with one of the evasive 3/3s. They would do alot more for you than the folio, even if you switched colors and didn't run them.

i agree with the above. playing this format alot of power comes from the four drop spot which gets even more power when you draft one of the evasive 3/3's. as with cinder pyromancer, i think picking the hag was correct. from what i could see there weren't alot of powerful red cards which means either none to begin with or someone was mono red with nobody else fighting for it. with hag, however, it provides solid card advantage for either green and/or black. i suggest in one of your drafts to go straight mono red. there are just too many powerful cards (except in your's lol) to pick. just last night i was mono red and one a 15 person draft with 1800's limited players.

I beat a 1800 first round, 1900 second round there was no one below 1700 at the table, i didnt play the folio in the end in case you had not noticed. The crag treads would prob have been my second choice. I like to draft mana ramp decks though in this format and folio is pretty good in general in fatty.dec be it pref GW but GR also.
