I am strongly AGAINST this petition. There is no basis in logic, fact, or the rules to force people to superfluously declare phases. That's slow play. That could even be stalling.

When you play MTG IRL, do you say "upkeep pass" every single time your opponent says "go?" Do you then say "draw step," draw the card, and say pass? Do you then say precombat main phase? No. If you have an effect, you say so, and the game-state reverts if it must or the opponent slows down during your requested step. When I pass the turn and I know I have upkeep effects, I say "wait at upkeep" and they do. This is how Magic works. If I say "go" and my opponent has EOT stuff, he says "EOT" and plays his stuff. This is accepted. This is in the rules. And this is a much better system. And it does not use forced phases.

phases are stupid.. when you play magic in real life do you say the phases. no its uncessary. phases are a nice feature but are pointless for efficient play. i hate those guys who wont play with you cuz you wont use phases. i play webwizard on my mac and it does not have phases and everything happens perfectly fine.

i prefer to use phases but i dont rly care if my opp doesnt use them, sometimes it can be annoying but its easy to fix any problems. you cant rly force everyone to use phases.

Comparisons to "IRL" magic have no merit within this conversation. Communication between players on mws is much, much slower, and is especially difficult given the various language barriers we sometimes run into here. I use the phases, and I never get complaints about speed nor do my matches go to time. Quit being so lazy and just use the things.

Makes play slower on MWS? How? Does it take you a year to click on the buttons on the phase bar? Probably not. Do you have to declare every phase? No one does that. When someone asks you to use phases, I don't think he means you must declare EVERY phase. Just the ones that matter. I completely fail to see how using phases will significantly slow down the game.

For example, opponent is a blue deck with 4 mana open. You should pause at the first attack step as it's possible for cryptic command to tap all. If you attack first, it's logically not fair because opponent has gained the knowledge of what you wanted to attack with.

Using phases resolves many argument. It lets people communicate without typing out sentences. This solves the language barrier. If anything, using phases speeds things up as it leaves LESS room for argument.

Real life comparison is pointless. Do people go "lol noob" and leave? No.

Start a petition banning the use of arrows. :\ Using or not using phases isn't relevant to how smoothly a game runs.

Causing errors with arrow-related issues IS relevant to how smoothly a game runs.

Rather than make an announcement for people who don't actually read announcements that explains how to avoid all arrow-related errors, why not just make an announcement for people who don't read them banning their use entirely?

Seems to me that this approach would solve many of the issues people have with figuring out whose fault these errors are.

Scenario 1: "Did you make an arrow to the [whatever] as he moved it?" "Yes, but it didn't error for me then etc etc etc etc." "Oh, well in that case blah blah blah blah!"

Scenario 2: "Did you make an arrow to the [whatever] as he moved it?" "Yes, but-" "Game loss. Continue with your match."

See? Easy. Smile
