it's the first pack, first pick of a lorwyn/morningtide draft. the best cards in the pack are purity, silvergill douser, pepprsmoke, mulldrifter, and thundercloud shaman. which should be picked?

since it's the first pick, i think you just default to mulldrifter, cause you'll probably play it no matter what

Personally I would take thundercloud shaman, granted it is a higher risk than mulldrifter as you could get giants cut, but the reward in terms of power level in limited is far greater. Thundercloud shamn is simply the nuts in giant decks and i never find giants overdrafted also mana fixing is less frequent now with one less set of vivids. Through out the entire of LLL I never lost a draft when i had thundercloud shaman in my deck.

honestly, i couldn't call either of those picks, or silvergill douser, wrong. but i probably wouldn't take peppersmoke or purity over those other 3

Yeah mulldrifter all the way. You can easily play it almost no matter what you're playing. Screw purity, it's WWW. Mulldrifter is amazing. Silvergilldouser would be my second pick from that pack.

take the shaman. next person will tke purity or mulldrifter. next will take that or douser. by taking shaman you are setting TWO, count'm TWO players on your elft into blue and the others into nothing red.

thundercloud shaman for the signal wins.
giant's also got better with banneret, warspike changeling, and more fficient early-drops from morningtide.

putting the 2 people next to you in blue does nothing, as mulldrifter can be played in anything and douser is in faeries/merfolk, it rly depends on personal preference, usually people like to draft different things so choose which ever your more comfortable drafting

I have to agree with Thundercloud Shaman here. It's the best signal, it's amazing if you're in red even without other giants around, and it's the stone cold nuts if you do have other giants.

gypsy, putting your neighboors into blue means that you get all the good red cards...

Plus, you know not to go into blue yourself.

Blue isn't that good when two players are fighting for it right next to each other.

Mulldrifter or TC Shaman, yea. Mot of the time Mulldrifter but I get moods for going giants too. Mulldrifter is certainly safer so it prolly is the right pick.

:Edit: And mind you, Mulldrifter can be splashed and is worth it.

i would prolly take the thundercloud shaman for these reasons.

1) barring any other cards in the pack (tarfire etc) you're trying to cut red by picking the shaman. of course mulldrifter is splashable but the fact that theres a douser in the pack as well will set at least one other player in blue somewhere to your left. although you could argue that ur sitting upstream and will get the better part of two packs compared to the single lorwyn pack going around counter-clockwise, you'd probably end up with a sub par deck because of that.

2) and it kinda depends on what the trend is like within ur draft pod. okay it might vary or u might not be aware of it but if u know certain things like the player to your right/left has a tendecy to go blue, then its best to avoid fighting over blue with them (though a case could be argued for the player sitting to your left, i mean if done correctly u could just cut pick all the blue cards and if he has enough sense, should realize that his fave color is being cut off)

3) and my last point might not be relevant to you but where im drafting, not alot of ppl draft giants anymore. partly due to the fact that giants in morningtide is a big letdown and really u have to try and pick all the changelings there is. but the fact that nobody draft giants in my area means u'd get alot of good late pick giants later on as the draft progresses.

but yeah sometimes things dont just work out as u plan it to be and by chance, the person feeding you drafts red and cuts u from ever playing that thundercloud shaman. that kinda sucks as uve practically wasted ur first pick bomb and that would be the argument for taking mulldrifter as its so splashable and could go into any deck that u draft. imo its a risk/reward kinda situation. if u pick the thundercloud shaman and should it go ur way and red (giants in particular) is not being drafted, u could be well on ur way to a very sick deck. sure having mulldrifter is pretty sick as well but nothing beats having a one-sided wrath the board effect.
