With the GO Host file that came with GO, is it possible to host your own server? I've tried and failed, but the computer I'm using is sub-par so I'm wondering if I should bother tinkering around with it.

In what way did you fail? Did the program crash, or are people unable to connect. If the latter is the problem, it may be that the router and firewall configuration is not correct. Set your firewall to allow go-host connections and redirect port 3000 to the ip adress that the hosting computer is using.
