Mogg Fanatic

seriously theres a whole bunch of stuff that depends on the type of deck you're facing AND what you play yourself....

i wont list each and every one of them, you can do that yourself but in general :

against aggro-igh non-goblins, Umezawa's Jitte is the main thing to pith followed by Cursed Scroll, manlands n Wasteland (if you 're playing small numbers of actual mana making lands)

Aether Vial, skirk prospector, SCG n sharpshooter vs goblins

COP, Pernicious Deed, n again...manlands vs control

Against combo, you're better of with 'stifle' effect since most combos nowadays depends on triggered abilities, storm, etc

against namesake decks like ravager-affinity(??), charbelcher, oath, loam, scepter-chant...you're an idiot if you dont knw what to pith

i hope that helps....

doesnt it completely rely on the match up?

Also naming your opponents sac lands in play is very sexy

It depends on the match-up, board state and the game of course (G1 you tend to Needle different, more generic things than G2 and G2 accounts for probable SB changes).

it depends on the matchup of course.

but the question I'm asking is among the top decks you face in legacy what to name with pithing needle.

btw thanks for the answers so far. but I'd still want to know specific cards.(e.g. mogg fanatic, cop was said etc etc.)

AETHER VIAL! DUH,

But really there isn't some catchall name for Legacy, it's too big a format, there is an infinite -1 possibilities. Fetchlands are quite good, or Wasteland.

Off the top of my head some great needle targets are:

Survivel
Wasteland
Fetchlands
Aether Vial
Salvagers

Although Pithing Needle is getting worse and worse in 1.5. It was a lot better when survivle decks were teir1

they can sac their lands in response to you playing the needle, but as soon as the needle resolves their fetchland or w/e is useless. so naming lands often is not only an option but a very effective way to screw an opponent.

-->on topic: cards i named today (german legacy nats): goblin charbelcher, bloodstained mire, windswept heath, sensei's divining top, mishra's factory, aether vial, umezawa's jitte.
