|
|
It's the first time I won byes for a Masters, and I was looking forward to playing it.
But I realized that it's on Easter Day, and my family will be having a reunion. Isn't that usual for you ppl?
I'm sure lots of people can play, but how many can't attend because it's a holiday? (maybe there even are some Catholics ) |

I may be atheist but I agree that the scheduling has a bit to be desired. |

wtf does being aethiest have to do with getting together with your family on easter?
i don't really believe in it, but who cares? i'm going to have a good time eating dinner with my relatives! if my little cousins are out searching for eggs, that just makes me smile. when i was a little kid, we did all that fun stuff and my family never even went to church!
it's all about good fun & family |

you are right for most of you post, but kwanzaa (2 'a's) is not specific to any religion so many christians do celebrate.
If masters were scheduled around every holiday everywhere in the world, we would have a tough time scheduling them. Also, just the fact that it's on a Sunday is already a problem for many because of Church on sunday.
Also, most "Easter" traditions are not really easter traditions but stolen from pagan holidays (like many christian traditions). The original holiday was actually a fertility festival: spring (rebirth, sex), eggs (as in eggs to have babies), and rabits (as in 'fuck like rabits') |

| I can never participate in Masters because I go to church every Sunday, and although I think it would be great if everyone on this website was a Christian (maybe the chat room would be less vulgar) I don't expect people who aren't Christians to plan their schedules around mine. |

lol so true. easter is a Christian bastardization of a pagan ritual as is Christmas. horns, pitchfork, cloven hooves, and forked tail for the Christian devil? (he is never described as such in the bible that is the image imposed by man ) stolen from a pagan fertility god.
anyways yea kinda awkward scheduling specially for a master >.> if rescheduling is possible it might be worth it |

Isn't Magic a sin in Catholicism? (No disrespect to catholics, but all the ones I've met have been legalistic to the point of absurdity) |

just make a list of every religion's holidays, add in to that all national holidays (like 4th of july to our american friends) and then see what days are left for playing tournaments.
Also, don't forget that fridays are not possible (many people play fnm, and it still is a weekday), saturdays are an impossibility too, because lots of people play their tournaments, and like to go out on that day.
Sunday. hmm to christians every sunday is out of the question, seeing that it is the 7th day, wich is supposed to be a day of rest and contemplation.
Now, does any of you see a day that is free for everyone to play?

I'm certain you make your best effort nico and it's very tough to please the crowd.
However I guess you can make some broad generalizations:
- Everybody here must speak English, so you can assume a majority of Westeners (IE Europe, US and South Americans, less people from Asia, Africa and the "Eastern" countries).
At the moment there are only three players from either Asia (counting Russia as part of Europe) or Africa in the top 100 of any rating, and I'd say it's roughly 1/3rd US, 1/3rd Europe and 1/3rd rest of the world, mostly South America.
That still leaves a very long list of days, but you can assume that 2/3rds of Magic-League could have some event or reunion on Easter (then again, we're talking Magic players here so maybe not).
So, if there is enough people that can't play (maybe you can compare the turnout from tomorrow's master to other recent masters) you should add it to the list of days set as "don't schedule Masters for this day" which probably includes Christmas and New Year I hope.
I agree that if you have a policy of holding a Masters every two Sundays it's basically impossible to move them (every other day, as you mentioned, is probably worse), and having a Masters and not having everyone attend is better than not having one at all. |
