|
Seeing as how I have been asked by multiple people for my decklist from the Mana Leak Open, and it doesn't seem like SCG will be putting up lists anytime soon, here we go:
Dark Boros - 1st/2nd split Day 2 Mana Leak Open (53 people, undefeated during swiss)
Land
3x Windswept Heath
2x Wooded Foothills
4x Plateau
4x Sacred Foundry
1x Scrubland
1x Badlands
2x Plains
2x Mountain
Guys
4x Mogg Fanatic
3x Isamaru
4x Dark Confidant
4x Silver Knight
4x Goblin Legionaire
2x Jotun Grunt
2x Orzhov Pontiff
2x Spectral Lynx
Stuff
4x Aether Vial
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Lightning Helix
3x Umezawa's Jitte
2x Chain Lightning
Sideboard
4x Pyrostatic Pillar
3x Shattering Spree
3x Glowrider
2x Orim's Chant
2x Abeyance
1x Jotun Grunt
Card discussions -
Sacred Foundry and Plateau - This deck is very color hungry, and any way to consistently get ww and wr on turn 2 is helpful.
5 fetches - This could be 6 if you'd like, but I am hesitant running that many fetches with the shocklands.
Dark Confidant - One of the main reasons to play this deck. Since your entire deck is cheap, his drawback is negligible. Most of the games I've lost with r/w boros was due to me running out of gas in the midgame.
Isamaru vs Savannah Lions - 2/2 >> 2/1, especially against goblins. The legendary status doesn't matter since it dies in combat often enough.
Jotun Grunt vs Grim Lavamancer - For a time I was debating running both, but that was a VERY bad idea. Lavamancer ate my graveyard, and I couldn't get more than 2 turns off of my opponent's. When it came time to make a choice, I took the 2 mana 4/4 which is great vs thresh over the 1/1 that rarely becomes active.
Spectral Lynx - A guy who has Pro:Threshold, and regenerates for a color I'm already playing... where do I sign up?
Aether Vial - This card allows me to cheat on mana, which makes all of my burn and activated abilities significantly better. This also allows me to force through creatures when I need them in play.
Orzhov Pontiff - This was my metagame card against Empty the Warrens. This deck can't really do much against 12 goblins on turn 2 normally, but this card gives me an out. This is also decent as a one shot Glorious Anthem.
Jitte - While many of of my guys are very easily killable (especially by my own choice), the card advantage generated is great.
Glowrider - If this hits against combo, it's game over. The time this guy buys me is almost always enough to end the game. It's also useful on the play against Thresh, since they run very few lands with a lot of draw. |

| I don't see how this deck is superior to Gobos with the white splash. |

Please don't post just one line answers which have no basis in this discussion. People were interested in the list, so I provided it. I never claimed it to be the end all/be all in the format. But to answer:
This deck is favorable against both Goblins and Threshold. If you take out the Lackeys and Warchiefs, you win. Most of the creatures in this deck are superior to Gobs in combat, either by being larger/protected/ or 2 for 1's. The card advantage off of Jitte is amazing. The only game I lost vs goblins at the Mana Leak was due to Chalice at both 1 and 2.
Against Thresh, your guys are again better in combat. Lynx has protection from their deck (and no random stp comments), where Legionaire takes out threshed Werebears by themselves. Grunt is a nightmare for them, as they have to Swords it immediately. Vial allows you to get guys in through counters, with Bob being one of the best.
The combo matchups are iffy, which is why 12 sideboard slots are dedicated to it. You *might* be able to race High Tide game 1, but Glowrider basically ends the game if it hits. |

hehe i thought goblin legionaire = skyknight legionaire.. don't ask me why.
I personally don't like the chain lightning in the deck... especially with the abundance of red decks. I think I would of played magma jet in the slot to help smooth out draws and its instant.
Why Shattering Spree? If its versus affinity or stax, isn't kataki better? |

I originally had Fire/Ice as the third burn spell, but the damage/mana ratio wasn't thrilling, and I already had enough efficiency from my guys. The amount of red in a real life meta is significantly less than we have online, with Goblins being the only red deck you'll see... and they usually tap out every turn in the early game, which negates the drawback.
As for Spree, Kataki isn't that good against the Goblin plan, since they can afford to pay to keep Chalices around, or kill Kataki easily. Replicate comes in huge vs both Goblins and Thresh, as it gets around Chalice 1; goes through counters; and can take out multiple artifacts in a single shot. |
