Avatar of discord
5/3 flying discard 2

what place if any does avatar of discord have in standard he just doesn't seem to fit into any standard decks, but seem sick in extended, because of dark ritual and suicide black decks.

I'd like to know what other's opinions on the card are

personally I like the card but feel scared to put it in a rakdos aggro with or with out hellbent, it scares me away to know all of the kill spells out now a day's.

but honestly why is it less of a risk to drop a lyzolda, rakdos augermage, or jagged poppet, there not any less fregile, lyzolda's a 3/1 !!!!!! ping !!!!!!!!

Ok. Lyzolda is always a possible 3 for 1. Like chump some idiot, burn another idiot and draw a card. Seems nice.

Discord is always 3 for 1ing yourself. With all the removal he will be killed and you just wasted 3 cards to suck out 1 removal spell. Lyzolda and Augermage are almost always needing to be killed so they trade 1 for 1, but have great effects if they live.

Dark Ritual, in Extended?! OMG, guys, let's go redifine MTG!

Seriously: Dark Ritual is in no Extended Legal set and last time it was (Mercedian Masques), it was banned in Extended. Also, if you're afraid of disruption in Standard, did you look at what Extended has in store? It has everything Standard has and more, much more.
I like the Avatar also, but I would only play it in casual. I might be wrong, but who knows for sure? Perhaps Budde or Finkle are trying to break him as we speak!

Dark Ritual is not legal in extended.

When they kill your Lyzolda or Augermage, you're down 1 card, not 3. Avator of Discord turns Putrefy into Ancestral Recall.

I have tried Avatar of Discord in an agressive discard black suicide deck.

Removal:
4 Last Gasp
2 Cruel Edict

Critter:
4 Foul Imp
4 Hand of Cruelty
4 Avatar of Discord
4 Rav Rat
3 Bob's

Discard:
4 Blackmail
4 Cry of Contention

Tools:
3 Jitte
3 Arena

Land:
18 Swamp
1 Mikokoro

This was in an attempt to utilize his cheapness, and offset the draw problem, while remove counters. IMO, this is the most effective way you could run the thing in t2, and it still comes up subpar.

I think the best way to use him would be in a deck with Castigate and maybe Distress as well. If you can clear the path for him, he's very efficient. That's a lot to accomodate one risky card, though.

He's sort of reminiscent of Negator, but considerably worse. 3 toughness I think really sinks it.

Avatar is real good. You guys just don't seem to understand. Okay, turn 3 Avatar and discard a dragon or two, etc. Turn 4 Vigor Mortis/Zombify/Footsteps. Easy.

But as a straight beater she's too risky. Unless you play her with blue and drop her late game with some counter backup then she's just really not worth it.

I can't think of a single competitive deck that can't kill her with ease. That coupled with the discard two when she comes into play makes her a terrible card for competitive play.

well avatar of discord is not good......it's too higly costed (if it cost 2 it was much much better) but 3 and discard 2..hmm..i see no other uses for it except :
turn 1: land(r/b)/chrome mox (b/r) mass histeria(or concordant crossroads or mark of fury or instill energy (with the appropriaet mana)/avatar or
turn 1: land(r/b)/chrome mox (b/r) library of leng/avatar
but this is just t1.5.....and won;t happen very often...though

If only this POS had haste... then I wouldn't have a problem with it. Sorta like a cheap Baldauvian Horde, but with haste and 2 cards of your choice, not 1 random.

OK it sucks, anything else? Nope? Discussion over.
Seriously though the only real use I could see for this is vs. Combo or something as kind of a ghetto Negator.

if it had "when AoD comes into play discard two cards" i would love it, but its lame in a hellbent deck because you cant play it straight off your library, and in non-hellbent it just screams tempo loss.
