With all the flying creatures around, it seems everyone has forgotten about Silklash Spider. I think it should be played more than it does. Compare it to Arashi, for the same price, you get a 2/7 that CAN block flying and you get to use Arashi's channel ability whenever you need it. I think it is highly underrated and should see more play.
Let me know what you think...

You should play Silklash Spider if your meta is filled with Melokus and the Dragons, but the current meta isn't really a flier filled frenzy.

Yes, he is amazing.

7 toughness stops practically everything, and his ability is pretty nice too.

Silklash Spider sucks.
1: There are not that many flying creatures in current T2.
2: The deck that does by lots of flying creatures is Blue Based and unless they suck they will counter your silklash spider or otherwise deal with him before you can use his ability. This is why Arashi is the balls, they can't counter his ability to kill Meloku and all his little friends.
3: Silklash Spider was actually halfway descent back in the day. I saw some people use him in sideboards when UG Madness was popular. They would run Elves instead of Birds and in the mirror they would side out Wonder and bring in Spiders and own the mirror which was huge because everyone played that deck. Of course they didn't have Arashi or they would have used him on account of his channel is uncounterable, he comes down as a 5/5 for 5 which is good on it's own, and if you didn't notice his ability can still kill flyers once he's in play.
Well ok, it's not so much that Silklash Spider sucks as he just sucks compared to Arashi.

Silklash and Arashi can't be compared.

Silklash is best against any of the Dragons.

Arashi is really only good against MUC. Well, he also is a 5/5 beater. I would suggest him in aggro.

Silklash stops any attacker, not only air. 7 tougness is hard to beat... I would suggest him in a more Control-esque deck.

LOL, if your plan against Koko or Yosie is Silklash Spider it's time for a new plan.

Arashi is better, without question.

When you need to take out fliers, he gets the job done, always. Spider requires a 5 mana investment and then a bunch more. And that's assuming he isn't removed.

What's more important is that when you don't need to deal with fliers, Arashi is efficient at 5/5 for 5 and can potentially later deal with fliers as well, while Spider's frame is terrible when you don't need blockers.

Elvishgod - He is saying that killing dragon legends is not a good strategy to defeat them, which is true. I disagree somewhat though, because Spider does effectively block the Dragons. That is the only thing that should ever compel someone to run it over Arashi.

If you have Silklash Spider in your deck the only thing that is going to accomplish is making me laugh harder while I Mortify, Putrefy, Faith's Fetter's, Wrath of God, or do any # of things to neuter it before I swing 5 damage to your face and make you wish you could channel Arashi in response. Well either that or I could breathe a sigh of relief that you dropped a 2/7 instead of a 5/5 and just continue to coast until I found an answer, or just kill you with the non-dragon creatures in my deck as you just kept it safe to attack as I please with an army of Hierarchs and Grave-Shell Scarabs instead of putting an actual threat on the board. But what do I know?

Unless they drop Kird Ape, then Spider turns into an infinity turn clock.

WELL. What made Arashi so good was the meta at the time, ALOT OF MUC. Arashi is totally ANTI MUC, he can:

1. Kill every one of MUC treats, via channel.
2. Channel cant be countered, sorry blue mage.
3. Hes a 5/5 body, for a finish.

Silklash is comparable to Arashi, but not in a MUC match up, Arashi is hands down better against MUC. SO the really questions is, are u gonna be playing against MUC or not, if not there probably interchangeable. PLUS silklash has his own pluses.

1. Higher toughness. Cant be burned, and can block north tree, ink-eyes, and dragons all day long.
2. Can block flying. Arash for some reason cant....even though hes a freaking tornado, don’t ask me why, that’s just how it is.
3. Can kill flyers over and over. in some situations against some decks this could be a game wining lock.

consider these factors and make your decision on which to play. good luck.

However, Arashi can only kill one guy at a time, while the spider wipes them all out at once.
