ok, rumor has it from the Asian front that the supply of Mind Bend (U/Instant: Change the text of target permenant by replacing all instances of one color word for another or one basic land type for another) is being COMPLETELY bought up.
Now my question is......why. What combo are they all working on or is it a SB card vrs some amazing unstoppable deck that we have yet to see.
As of now the ONLY thing i can see them combining it with is Savra, Queen of the Golgari. And create a one sided wrath of god effect, but seems a little weak to be so huge and not thought of already......lets get to work and find out what it is so all the real life players don't get swamped by some obsure deck that over runs us. |

Hmm, alright lets think about this for a minute. Mindbends PRACTICAL USES.
A) Only hits permanents.
B) Only changes color, or land type, like plainswalk, from white to red.
Uses:
Blood Moon - UR turning any nonbasics into any color you want. Doesn't seem practical to me, on its own its potent, unless you plan on boiling them (use mind bend to turn them into islands).
Tibur and Lumia: Seems pratical, change it to all red, or all blue, then everything you play a spell, wipe the board, sound, and it flies to avoid.
Paladin en-Vec: Almost silly, but it can protect it from your opponents spells. Maybe practical, not sure.
Oni of wild places: Good beat stick, mind bend it for white or green or something, and keep beating with it. Kind of dumb too.
Akki Lavarunner: Stupid, really pointless.
Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran: They'd have to run 3 colors, not happening.
CoP: Possible, pay 1: To protect of a color of your choice, but still a two card combo.
Sunforger: Now this is scary, change it to a blue or whatever color you want, now you have RW counter target spell, now that sounds sick. That's dangerous. The most practical use, but still requires two cards, but sunforger can be tutored with drift.
Tenzo Godo's Maul: Nothing great, no one would use it for this.
Stampeding Serow: Mind bend it to a different color, no longer will you have to return creatures, 5/4 trampler. Not the best, but with a cloak on it it can be a beast.
Circu Dimir Lobotomist: Good use, change both instances to blue, everytime you counter, mill twice, and remove. I like this use, it's cute.
Trusted Advisor: Change it to a color you don't play, then you can keep it in play, no more bouncing a blue creature.
Eight and a half tails: Change it to the color you are playing against (kind of impractical, too many tri color or dual color decks. It's good the way it is.)
Hand of Cruelty: Protection from...whatever you want.
Eiganjo Free Riders: Bounce whatever color you don't have, keep it in play.
Horror of Horrors: Sac a whatever land you want, regenerate whatever color creature you want. Dumb, total mortify bait.
Savra Queen of the Golgari: Interesting, change it to green or black depending on what you run, gravepact engine...nothing great.
Skull Collector: A regenerator who doesn't have to bounce black creatures anymore.
Seas claim: Enchanted land is whatever color they can't use? Dumb use.
Sea monster: Can't attack unless defending player has [insert land here].
Nightmare: P/T is now equal to whatever landtype you want. Kind of stupid.
Dark Heart of the wood: Sacrifice a land type of your choice: Gain 3 life.
Blanchwood armor: +1/+1 for land type of your choice.
Patron: Tap: Untap land type of your choice.
Taproot Kami: Toughness is = to the number of lands of your choice in play.
Teysa, Orzhov Scion: Change it to any color instance, infinite remove creature combo. Very dangerous if you can keep it alive, but too fragile of a combo.
This is all I could see as uses, the best being Tevsya, Sunforger, and Savra I guess, or turning a bloodmoon into a pile of crap.
[EDIT]
Actually, think about it: UWR, play firemanes, play sunforger, mind bend it after it's attached for blue or red instants...total control of the board. EOT hit with burn, or IR counter a spell. A bit mana intensive, but it can be done, might need to be in the aggro version with Tibur and Lumia, for board control, actually that sounds like an interesting deck idea. Maybe I'll go build it. |

They are using it against COP: Red.
The Japanese Owl deck relies more heavily Sudden Impact and Twincast than Owl for the win. So they need to stop COP: Red if it comes up. |

That's not why theyre using it, because cop:red is used in less than 1% of the decks. |

Do you mistrust Randy Buehler's scouting?
He reported both the run on Mind Bend and the reason behind it yesterday in the Podcast. |
