| Ok. I've been looking at some stuff recently and 2 cards really caught my eye. Hateflayer and Evershrike. The hateflayer seems like it'd be good with wither AND a direct dmg burn ability. Seems like it would be good in GR ramp as a 2 of. And evershrike just seems odd enough to work. the only problem being keeping aura's in your hand, but then again, you run into the inherent problem with auras: 2 for 1 card advantage. but then again, because the evershrike can come back, it's really just 1-1 because you really only lose the aura. So, I'm curious if anyone can make a tournament level deck with either of these cards. |

| Hateflayer is what I like to call "n00b bait". Evershrike on the other hand might show up as a finisher in Ghost Dad type decks that might surface, but I doubt it. Without Tallowisp, it's just a sometimes recurring critter. However, we might see Extended Ghost Dad lists with Evershrike and Tallowisp. Great casual card though. |

| With recurring auras like Spirit Loop and the fact that you can activate Evershrike as an instant, it should be possible to not be too hampered by having weak cards in the deck (aka auras). |

| I agree with Thorn about Hate except for one deck that isn't really T1. Mannequin. SO now u have hellkite, hate, both akroma's.. sounds reasonable. |

Well, I dunno about tournament level... but I've done some fiddling with Hateflayer, and I've managed to find that in a r/g manaramp he does really mess up the world. He just loves to play with Elemental Mastery, since it gives him a very nice tap outlet for his burning... and if you have 10 mana open when you play the mastery (which how hard is it, honestly, for r/g manaramp to get 10 mana?), you can finish the opponent off in one turn, and if not you just rinse and repeat until they're gone. Tap Hateflayer for the mastery, making 5 1/1 hasters, tap 3 and untap him, deal 5 to the opponent (or to creatures, but when you're gonna swing in the 15 1/1's, chances are they can't block enough not to kill them), tap again, that's 10 1/1's, tap 3 and untap, they're now at 10 life (all chances increase if you atk'd in previous turns with things), tap it again and swing in with 15 1/1's. I playtested a deck based on that, and I got the combo off fairly Consistently, and regardless of the combo it tended to end in a turn 5 victory.
Here's the deck build I had set up. Could probably use improvements, but... eh well. It's based off of a mixture between A standard mono-red elemental aggro deck, but has some other accelerants tossed in for support. It can hit hard, but it really is designed just to ramp into hateflayer, and then into the combo.
Here goes:
Lands: 24
3 swamp
6 mountain
3 Forest
4 Vivid Crag
4 Reflecting Pool
4 Primal Beyond
Creatures: 29
2 Devoted Druid(mana)
2 Bloom Tender (omg fantastic, drop the devoteds for 2 more?)
3 Soulbright Flamekin (mana+tramply goodness)
3 Smokebraider (mana)
4 Brightearth Banneret (mana, backwards)
4 Flamekin Harbinger (good for nabbing a hateflayer)
3 bloodmark Mentor (first strike? ok!)
4 Hateflayer (main reason for deck)
2 Ashling the Extinguisher (Seemed like a good, albeit arbitrary addition. Basically she's a threat.)
2 Cloudthresher (also a threat, and just a good card)
spells: 7 (this is where I couldn't think of stuff to add, so I didn't add much... Needs revision for balance)
4 Elemental Mastery
3 Puncture Blast (wither, and 3 dmg, it's nice enough for me)
Ok, so lemme know what you think.
Oh, and for the record, I playtested this deck with a few people on MWS, and it went 7-3. (that's 10 matches total, not just 10 games) It still needs a 'board, and a little tweaking, but it looks goodish as-is. |

| More colours for Bloom Tender? Reveillark and Mulldrifter perhaps. |

Or at least somewhere around those lines. I'll look into it. EDIT: wow, forget that last statement... I forgot about the primal Beyonds... @_@ (Lacking sleep, sorry) |

A full set of Smokebraider for sure. He is your best mana fixer/accelerant. |
