It seems like it would be decent to throw in a Naturalize or two. I use 4 Disenchants in my Monowhite Vintage control deck and it works out ok. I'm pretty amateur at making decks, so you don't have to take my advice.

We all got to start somewhere, and it's actually not a bad idea. I put the krosan grips in there since they are a bit better than naturalizes. But naturalizes do have the mana advantage for things like bitterblossom. Bottom line, both are extremely useful cards.

I agree, deckbuilding is a lot of fun. I come up with a lot of ideas that are fun to build a deck around, but are usually pieces of shit. And every single one of those decks doesn't need to be posted on here for critique. And don't tell me to stop reading these posts because I just read basically every thread that comes up.

No one said you had to stop reading these posts lol.

Let's take a look at the regional qualifier that's pretty similar:
3 Gaddock Teeg
4 Imperious Perfect
4 Kitchen Finks
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Safehold Elite
4 Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers
4 Wilt-Leaf Liege
4 Wren's Run Vanquisher
sorcery [3]
3 Overrun
enchantment [3]
3 Shield of the Oversoul
land [23]
4 Brushland
9 Forest
2 Pendelhaven
5 Plains
2 Treetop Village
1 Wooded Bastion
60 cards
Sideboard:
3 Cloudthresher
3 Faerie Macabre
1 Gaddock Teeg
3 Wispmare
1 Crib Swap
1 Krosan Grip
1 Squall Line
2 Sunlance
15 cards

I was thinking about maybe putting in some elvish promenades or gilt-leaf ambushes to juice up the overrun. However, I am going to assume that the deck qualified for a reason, so I'll trust the maker' judgement.

If so, you are making a Overrun deck. His isn't an overrun deck and that is precisely why he did well.

I played some sample hands with it on deckcheck, and it seemed dead until turn 3, mainly 4. If this played a blue controlish deck, wouldn't it get ripped apart by rune snags or bounce?

If you can counter or otherwise get rid of Overrun, Liege and Shield of the Oversoul, the deck is kind of just dropping efficient creatures yes. That can be quite good, but it is also easy to stop for decks that have the tools for it.

Any ideas for making it better?

Decks without instants/flash will never succeed - they can be ok or even good yes, but never really have a chance vs decks which can respond to stuff.

If you main a few Cloudthreshers, run instant pump instead of Overrun, add Mirrorweave and maybe Crib Swap or Temporal Isolation - but still retain some of the power of that deck, I think the deck would become more versatile. I am a fan of clear and consistent game-plans but GW beats is too simplistic.

you could just play good sb cards that rape blue's ablity to counter your spells.

eyes of the wisent
gutteral response
avoid fate

mana ramping will negate the power of rune snag.
gutteral will negate any blue instant
avoid fate will protect vs bounce
and eyes will just make them use counters defensively making cryptic less powerful.

cloudthresher is prolly a maindeck obv

so keeping what you said in mind, what would be a good amount to put in without jeopardizing the progress and synergy of the deck? And then what would be best to take out?

chuck in like 3 of each, except for avoid fate. That card is specific, so I don't know what you want to do with it. Maybe a shusher or 2 wouldn't hurt. And mainddeck cloudthresher for sure. It could possibly be a win condition, and is a good big-baddy.
