For the record Jon Finkel did win a world series of poker bracelet not for the main event, he and a team of other guys won out in some teams competition. This was way before poker got real big.

According to some, part of the reason American MTG players haven't been as dominant on the Pro Tour in recent years as they should be by population (the United States has over twice the population of Japan and over three times the population of France) is because a lot of the best American MTG players quit (or played less) Magic to go play Poker, which has better return money-wise, instead.
