Here's mine:
3x Mutavault
3x Keldon Megaliths
17x Snow-covered Mountain
4x Boggart Ram-Gang
3x Magus of the Moon
4x Keldon Marauders
4x Tattermunge Maniac
4x Mogg Fanatic
4x Incinerate
4x Flame Javelin
4x Rift Bolt
3x Lash Out
3x Shard Volley
SB:
1x Magus of the Moon
4x Vexing Shusher
4x Sulfurous Blast
4x Skred
2x Smash to Smitherens/Cryoclasm
I'm currently with this version 5-2 here at magic-league. Wins are vs. UBR(?) Mannequin, 2x Faeries, Lark and Mirror. Losses are vs. Storm and GW Ramp.
The only reason this deck exists is IMO because it can beat Faeries. The Rg version did ok vs. faeries but this 1 really beats em'. I also tested with my friend who is pretty good player and went 4-0 (faeries) against him.
I think that megaliths is way better than ghitu, and those 3 mutavaults hurt a bit but are easily playable.
Magus of the Moon is insane, in mono-r you HAVE to play him. Shusher is pretty good, with Magus+Shusher I'm really concentrating on the faeries m-u, you basically need to win that one. Without these 2 dudes the m-u is easily 50/50 or even worse.
Skreds are vs. random aggros (going to play in nat qualifiers on saturday), and they are good vs. faes too. Basically every deck plays creatures so they're never a bad option. Also i'm counting on the surprise factor, 1 mana removal isn't expected.
The rest is pretty basic. I would love to hear some crazy sb ideas before saturday. |

tatternmunge=4. a 2/1 first turn, sounds great to me
Muta>Ghitu= no tap, 2/2 for 1
magus of the moon= 2 main deck, 2 SB
Browbeat= not bad. maybe not a 4 off. maybe 2-3. 5 dmg or 3 cards for 3 mana sounds good.
21-22 mana-optimal
Pyroclasm- main deck and SB
Sulfuric blast= SB
MUST: Guttural
sulfur elemental, scroll, augur= trash. |
LOL.
Muta>ghitu as long as you deck doesn't have 8 cards costing RRR.
magus of the moon can be maindecked in some metas. I prefer it in the side. If the meta calls for it in the main then just play 4.
browbeat=tempoloss if you draw 3. The 3 cc slot has ram gang and javelin as way better options.
Pyroclasm- main deck and SB Sulfuric blast= SB --> WTF??? If you want to play both then sulurous blast (not sulfuric) should be the main deck one because at least it damages the opp unlike pyroclasm.
MUST: Guttural -> counterspells are not really the problem of red decks.
sulfur elemental, scroll, augur= trash. magus of the scroll is decent but mogg fanatic and maniac are better. |

Browbeat sucks because if you need to deal damage, you don't deal damage and if you need cards, you don't get cards. No matter what, the thing you get is not what is best - and so the card is suboptimal in all circumstances.
Magus of the Moon is surely good in the sideboard, against non-red decks that runs a lot of non-basic lands. It locks them down. I don't think it is a maindeck card, though - because it is a 2/2 creature for 3 mana, with no haste or evasion. RDW is about dealing damage, nothing else.
Shard Volley is really bad until the opponent is at 3 life.
The deck needs to be designed so that it deals ~10 damage with creatures first, then ~10 damage with burn afterwards.
4 Tattermunge maniac
4 Mogg Fanatic
4 Keldon Marauders
4 Tarmogoyf
2 Countryside Crusher
4 Rift Bolt
4 Flame Javelin
4 Incinerate
4 Tarfire
3 Shock
1 Shard Volley
4 Treetop Village
4 Mutavault
4 Karplusan Forest
2 Gemstone Mine
8 Mountain
-1 Shard Volley, +1 Countryside Crusher and the Treetop Villages are the most questionable card choices here. The rest should be pretty basic.
4 Naturalize /Spring Cleaning(over Krosan Grip because then you don't use one whole turn to kill an enchantment or artifact)
4 Magus of the Moon (yes this deck does have non-basic lands, but you should side in Magus against decks it cripples - they must kill it, and when they do, you get mutavaults and villages back ftw)
4 Riftsweeper (Ancestral Vision, Riftwing Cloudskate)
3 Sulfurous Blast (can also be main) |

okay skilla, I dont mean to flame but your ideas are not fitting rdw.
period.
play a netdeck list, not just once, and make a note on all matchups, win loss draw and a short why..
then try to tweak that list, 1 less of the ramgang, add 2 shards instead 2 shocks, things like that.
when that part is finished, make some little changes to sb for the meta and play a tournement.
When you have done all of the above youve got yourself a list.
your base probably will be something like this:
4 mogg fanatic
4 tattermunge
4 keldon M.
4 rift bolt
4 incinerate
4 flame javelin
2 shard volley
4 shock/tribalshock
so that leaves you 8 spots for personal flavours, mine are 4 tarmogoyf, 3 ramgang and 3 treetops(23 lands no muta's)..
gl and all grz boeda |

Spark Elemental sucks. Don't play it. It is only "a lightning bolt" when the opponent cannot block it and have no mana untapped. Karplusan Wolverine, Mudbrawler Cohort and even Adder-Staff Boggart are better choices in that slot. Goblin War-Marshall, Blood Knight and Pyre Charger even better yet.
-3 Spark Elemental, +1 Shock, +2 Pyre Charger |

| I've suggested blood knight, but it seems to be unpopular and normally not used. Plus, against non-white decks, it may not shine as much. I like the ones that get juiced up or can deal damage in multiple ways. |

| Would it be advisable to throw in 2 siege-gang commanders? |

| no, im going to come up with the best list and then buy the cards. I didn't think it would be smart to keep buying cards im not going to use. I'm getting close though. |

the idea is to test the list on MWS and then buy the best card you have tested for the tourneys...
Skilla, are you new to this? |

| Kind of. But I have neither the time nor money to tryout all of the decks. And people keep saying to put this in, or to have something completely different. What's wrong with waiting to see what the big deal is if I just wait until I make one I like/prefer. |

Either you build with what you got, and trade over time, not spending money at all beyond paying for drafts... (like I do)
Or you buy a deck that has been tested hundreds of hours by a really really good player/deckbuilder, who preferably have won a tournament with the deck. (Or lend the cards from others, like I do when I go to tournaments)
Believe me; paying hundreds of dollars for a deck you have designed yourself isn't a good idea. If you have the time to test it 2-300 games against the whole meta, and the skill and experience to figure out what the good meta calls would be, then you will be ok. Otherwise you will spend a lot of money on nothing.
So regarding RDW: no matter how much you test and how many ideas you try out, you will end up with the version that the Really Good Players have already built. |

Well, that's what I hope to do. I just didn't know the new potential with shadowmoor out. Many of the RDW decks were consistent up until shadowmoor, where cards like the javelin change a lot of things. I've looked up a bunch of cards to see if any had good potential, but I think that we covered most of the good ones here.
Plus, RDW decks are relatively cheap to make in general. |

Well, seeing that you got the time to at least read the treads, you may well have the time to test some of the decks with mws, so why not play the build you like most on some league matches or minis here, and you will see soon enough what is the problem and what to improve upon, without spending any money.
