Why do people smoke?

Smoking is clearly unhealthy and leads to alot of health problems. Why do people do it?
I know some here smoke so I would like if they'd tell me why.

People smoke because they think that if they smoke, they are cool, and therefore can hang out with cool people, and meet cool girls, and feel important. Until they grow old and die of Lungs Cancer.

I'm pretty sure its obvious most ppl start smoking in Highschool via peer pressure or w/e reason ... then when u realize wtf ur doing to ur self and u want to quit u cant
